Going to submit my application soon and I need help choosing dental schools. I'm looking to apply around 15-20 schools.

Cut out every school with an OOS acceptance rate below 30%.

Then wait for your DAT score to come back and cut out some more.

How much does applying to all these schools cost, including secondaries? 7.5K?

I did that and I want to submit my application as soon as possible without DAT score.

If you did that, how do you still have both Texas schools on there? Especially Houston, who interviewed a grand total of 1 OOS applicant last cycle.

Are you sure you are an ex-pharmacy student? Someone that is applying to that many schools is probably an ex-convict. Anyways, I think you should remove the Texas schools, Loma Linda, ASDOH, Columbia, Oregon, U of Pennsylvania, Meharry, and I Washington.

I suggest removing them if you are not going to score a 22+ on the DAT (Upenn, Columbia), your letter of recommendation have to be from a Physics Professor ( Columbia) Volunteer Coordinator (ASDOH), and/or from someone that is affiliated with religion (Loma). And the others are not favorable to you because you are not a minority and it is not out of state friendly.

I missed that for some reason. Just removed. Thank you. Anymore guys?

Thanks for your input.

I believe that most OOS students accepted to UConn and Minnesota are within their regions (Northeast and Midwest, respectively), so chances are lower than they appear from just looking at OOS %.

Are you using any AP or community college credits for pre-reqs? If so, that'll rule out a number of schools.

Tennessee has only 10-15 true OOS seats. The number listed on the ADEA guide is inflated because the majority of the OOS seats are given to residents of Arkansas because they do not have a dental school.

Take your DAT first. Dont waste your money applying to some of these schools.

Have you taken any DAT practice tests yet? How do you know you will get at least a 21?

Yes, i have been scoring AA22 as average on all bootcamp. Thanks for your inputs guys but lets just stick with the topic for now. There is no need to worry about my financial needs or DAT scores. I got it all figured it out. Thanks!

Actually, it does matter, both financial needs and a real DAT. It's one thing to say "I'll get a 21" but without knowing how you know that, we can't really give you good advice on schools. If you are getting all 22's, great, that helps. As for the finances, are you ok with $500,000 in debt when you graduate? It matters because that is what some of those schools will cost. Your GPA is pretty low so a 22+ on the DAT will help. Your ECs are good, but I would question why you spent 600+ hours shadowing with a 3.2 sGPA, that kind of thing. Dropping out of pharm school will count against you. Schools won't want to take the chance of you dropping out of dental school too.

Definitely go through the ADEA guide for applying to dental school to weed out the schools that don't take many OOS, aren't in your gpa/dat range, aren't places you'd see yourself being happy for 4 years. I did this last cycle. Applied to 12 schools, 4 interviews and accepted to 2. Good luck!

Yes that is exactly right. It was a tough decision but I had to call it. Anyways, are there anyone else who could help me narrow the list down?

I mean why? what makes you do that if you dont mind?

the above posters are the most active and they all suggest smth logical. First get the DAT score first, after you get the DAT score, you will for sure can narrow down your list based on location, COA, and preference.

Lets just say that I'm no longer interested in it. Anyways, thanks for the comment.

great, but it would have been more helpful for us to give you suggestions knowing that from the start.
