Heyyy all,
Sorry to bore you with another "am I late" thread but I'm really beginning to doubt myself. I just really need some peace of mind while i'm filling out secondaries. I was initially going to give up this cycle but after receiving my MCAT score, I decided to just do it!
I should have all my secondaries sent in by the end of next week- I understand i'm VERY late but will I really be bascially interviewing for wait list slots (if I even do get II's)?? Will my URM status help at all?

3.5 cgpa & sgpa/501 (26 on old scale)/ Mexican-American female/ Non-trad/ DO LOR/DO ONLY/Pretty excellent EC's and clinical stuff/Cali resident hoping to stay in the west coast

Secondaries will be sent for these so far: PCOM-GA, NOVA, WYCOM, NYIT, BCOM( I get that they are filled), CCOM, AZCOM, ATSU-SOMA, TUCOM-CA, VCOMs

Your school list seems a little top heavy, especially given your MCAT.

I would highly recommend adding in the LECOMs, ACOM, MU-COM, Touro-NY, VCOMs (all three),
What state/region are you from?

AZCOM, TUCOM-CA, CCOM like high MCATs
ATSU-Soma is very mission driven. They like to see that you are into community health. tough secondary and tough interview from what i've heard
BCOM's class is pretty much close to full, and they are going to be continuing to interview people till next year. Unless you live near the area, I'd suggest crossing this one out.
I'm unsure about the other schools in your list.

@SOOyC52H1Sof
I live in CA.

I realize that 🙁 But those are the schools that have sent me secondaries so far-my primary was submitted about a week and 1/2 ago.
I applied to 19 DO schools and all of the ones you mentioned so I'm really trying to spread myself thin. Thank you for your input!!

You're fine for BCOM. They maybe near max capacity, but they are still doing deferred acceptances.

We have the same MCAT score, but my gpa is 3.82, and 3.72 science gpa, and i was able to get 7 Interview invites (BCOM, CUSOM, LECOM BRADENTON, LECOM-SH, ACOM, NYIT-COM, KCU), and I only went to 5 interviews ( CUSOM, LECOM BRADENTON, LECOM-SH, ACOM, NYIT-COM), got 3 acceptances so far, but am confident I was accepted to the other 2 as well! So it can be done, but I applied much earlier than you!

Are you URM as well?

A URM female applied to ATSU-SOMA late into the cycle.....Marchish......with a 3.5/25....... she got a accept 2 days before classes started. So it is possible.......

Just so you know, PCOM-GA has a very strong in-state bias. So unless you have very significant ties to Georgia, it may not be worth the application cost

Your GPA is fine, but your MCAT score is pretty low. I would retake it and re apply it next year because your chances of getting into medical school now is pretty low, considering the fact that people apply much earlier (around July- August). Wait for the next cycle...you don't want to reapply as a re applicant, which further reduces your chances. Good luck my friend.

You will be fine!! I would also put in an app to WesternU, both campuses, since you are from California.

A bunch of my friends applied during this time last year, with stats similar to yours, and all of them got in. Don't worry about it!

I dont think her MCAT is low.. I am not even an urm and had the same MCAT and have had 8 interview invites, and 4 acceptances already! I only attended 5 interviews, and still waiting to hear back. I think the fact that she/he is URM helps her a lot!

At this point you are already in the application process so might as well see it through. You definitely have a chance and in all honesty no one can give you a likely percentage.

Would it have been better if you applied earlier? Yes
Are there still schools interviewing/accepting? Yes
Will your URM help? Yes
Do you still have a chance at getting in w/o wait listing? Yes

So keep your fingers crossed, say a prayer.... and best of luck!

All of that said:
Should you be thinking about a fall back plan of applying again next year? Most definitely Yes
Studying for the MCAT at some point and bumping your score up would be definitely beneficial and any spring classes that may strengthen your application all the better. Worse case you are an early applicant for next cycle and have a really good chance at that point.
I applied early and made it in with a 501 MCAT so it is possible. Sci GPA 3.44, Non Sci 3.63

Your MCAT is not low. I have no clue why someone just told you that. I had the same stats as you with a slightly higher science GPA at 3.6, received 9 interview invites, and have already been accepted to my top choice. I'm from CA as well. I would say to wait to apply until next year though as you can be early and have a better chance at getting into a school you really want to go to. If you're really trying to stay on the west coast. Your best bet would be to apply early next year.
