i've read a few threads regarding forum members' scores. i've read most saying 400 is like passing, and have heard of people scoring 700+ and doing very well. has anyone ever heard of someone passing with an NBME below 400? on the other end, has anyone hear heard of people scoring almost 800?

2nd part to the thread. is the $45 fee for 4 blocks? or for two - 4 block tests that you can take on different days?

thanks

Yes and yes. With that said, these tests prove to be the best predictors of performance, time and again.

The $45 is for each 4 blocks of 50 qs totaling 200 qs. As far as I know they have 2 sets of 200 qs, with answer no explanations.

it gives the correct answers? i thought it didnt

Has anyone bothered to put together an answer key to these questions? If someone did a "copy and paste" operation on the questions while taking the test, it wouldn't require more than a day or two of effort to go do the research to generate an answer key.

On top of that, if someone generated the answers and then ten or twenty people actually took the practice exam, wrote down their answers before submitting it, and then submitted for a grade, we could actually figure out how Step I is scored (no more having to guess whether 60% or 70% is passing or just how many points are required for a 240).

While this might seem like a very clever idea, anyone attemtpting to do this would be putting themselves in one hell of a pickle. This is strictly forbidden by the NBME and is cearly expressed in a statement you agree to before you take the exams. Being that this is a public forum and NBME officials have been known to browse it on occasion it would be extremely unwise for one to do anything that might displease the NBME people. Getting yourself banned from ever sitting for a NBME exam is definately not the way to a better resdency (which is what I assume your goal is if you're striving for that killer Step 1 score.)

Moral of the story, watch what you say on these forums. Do not discuss specific questions, answers, and other NBME "secrets". You could find your self in a sh**load of trouble. It has happened before. You've been warned.
