NY state is opening another dental school in Rochester, NY. This marks the seventh dental school in the state. While I'm sure this new school will be advertised as increasing "access to care", the reality is of the likely 100 students per class, 90% of them will flood into the saturated markets of NYC or LI. This is ruining the profession. The vast oversupply of dentists has dentists fighting for scraps while pay stays stagnant. We need to BAN all new dental schools from opening and close all of the private schools that cost 500k+. I want so badly for this profession not to become destroyed, but nobody in power will do anything to stop this mess.

If you're a pre-dent and you want to practice anywhere even remotely desirable, pick another career.

They were always the U of R School of Medicine and Dentistry despite having no dental school. They do have an AEGD program (Eastman Institute for Oral Health).
I have no doubts their dental school will be much more reputable than the newer scam schools of Yeshiva, CNU, Larkin, etc. My main argument is, we simply don't need another dental school flooding new graduates into desirable areas which is the inevitable outcome. It's terrible for the profession.

Fair... I just wanted to say it feels less dirty than Larkin or HPU. I think it's the NY dental association flexing for it... but yeah, it's not like they'll open a dental school at D'Youville. But point taken all the same. 🙂

Nothing will happen. Has there ever been an example of dental schools reducing tuition? I doubt it. The only thing that will change dental education is when schools don't have enough applicants to fill their seats which we apparently aren't even close to given thousands are applying to crazy expensive schools like NYU.

I don't know much about the other schools you mentioned so can't comment but CNU in CA is definitely a scam. I know international students who have been accepted without the DAT as long as they can submitted proof of their ability of pay for the entire 4 years of dental school without the need to borrow take out any loans.

It’s safe to assume every new school is a scam until proven otherwise.
