I know a lot of the upper tier NYC programs have been compared and discussed here, but I was really hoping to get some perspective and advice on how Bronx-Lebanon and Nassau compare to each other? Any thoughts would be appreciated: prestige, fellowship opportunities, resident happiness, etc.

Thank you and good luck to everyone !

Neither are anywhere close to the top of my list..However, I'm ranking NUMC over bronx lebanon for a few reasons.

-2 residents per year versus 4 = better call schedule, more people to work with.
-Location: Long Island >>>>> Bronx
-NUMC residents do well matching into Cornea and Retina. One of the attendings (Dr. Lopez) takes on a retina fellow every 2 years.

As for prestige, I'm not sure which program hold more..

Both programs are comparable in terms of reputation. If I had to choose I would probably pick Bronx Lebanon despite it being a smaller program because there appears to be more upside as far as clinical training is concerned (inner city hospital, poorer patient population, more advanced eye disease and perhaps higher surgical volume).

Ya, I got the impression Bronx-Lebannon was a better hospital overall and that the residency seemed a bit more structured. I'm not sure that Dr. Lopez's primary appointment is with Nassau...
