Hi all! I'm hoping someone can offer some advice on the predicament I'm in:

I graduated from a great 4 year university in May of 2013 as a science major. I had completed all of my pre-reqs except for one (my school only offers 1 semester of general chemistry, and I did not complete an upper level of inorganic before graduating). Due to financial reasons, I was only in 12 credits/semester and working 40 hrs/week my senior year, and I could not fit in this last pre-req due to work/schedule demands.

I have been working full-time since graduation and have recently taken the new MCAT. I will be applying to both MD and DO programs in June. I was planning to enroll in p-chem this fall to fulfill this last requirement, but with my full-time schedule and tight budget, taking the class at CC makes more sense to me. The cost difference between CC and university is $300 at CC and $2200 at U. I've never had financial support from family and with my current loan repayments, I cannot afford $2200.

Will taking one semester at CC as a non-trad significantly affect my application at schools? Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be sure to explain everything! Thanks!

CC for one class doesn't get discussed often.

i'm vehemently anti-CC for anyone with a low GPA and for anyone in a super-competitive state, assuming there's a bunch of coursework to get done.

I'm vehemently pro-inexpensive for getting one class done.

Do the CC. Get an A.

Best of luck to you.

This question has been asked so many times...

If you can direct me to a thread that discusses one class at CC for a non-trad, then please do! Otherwise, your comment is both unhelpful and unappreciated.

I'm with DrMidlife on this one; take the CC course. You have a good reason for taking it there, and can show that your other coursework was completed at the university level.

Thank you for your reply! I have a competitive gpa and hopefully competitive MCAT (haven't received my score yet), just not a lot of money to spare, especially with the costly application cycle approaching. This is encouraging to hear, so thank you!
