Hello All!

I have been entertaining the idea of going to PA school in IL and I am wondering if i am a competitive candidate or not. My background is in pre-optometry: graduated with a degree in Biology in 07, worked for an optometrist for 4.5 years, got into an optometry school but didn't go due to financial reasons in 08 and for a year now, working for a staffing firm as a recruiter's assistant. My gpa in college was a mere 3.1 and I had 350/400 on my OATs. I have been out of school for more than 2 years now, don't have any recent healthcare exp under my belt. So my question is, where do i stand and what do I need to do in order to be a competitive candidate. Any insight is much appreciated 🙂

Thanks!

I think you'd be better off going to www.physicianassistantforum.com, which is the PA version of SDN. This is an applicant stats page:

Some schools may take your experience as an optometrist (?), and in that case would make up for your GPA. Your best bet would be to find programs that you are interested in and go from there. I think the average GPA of entering PA students is around 3.4, but I can't find the documentation that I once saw about the stats of admitted students.
