Rochester:
Pro's:
- Closer to home
- Ranked higher
- P/F
Con:
- Class size smaller - are many students going to have come just out of undergrad? (I am currently a senior)
- No recording of lectures
- Days seem long but that may just be me
Einstein:
Pro's:
- P/F
- Close to NYC
- Students seemed happy yet they did in Rochester too
- Large class size
Con's:
- Not ranked as high
- Too much of Jewish influence? (I am not Jewish myself)
- More expensive (although this is not really a concern and the difference is minimal)
- Bronx really that bad of an area?
- Facilities not as nice
- Both have great match lists. While Rochester may be more convenient, I'll be around 22 when I start med school and thus finish when I'm 26. I'm not sure if I want to live my prime "fun" years in Rochester as opposed to the Bronx, which is located right by NYC. Also, both schools are P/F which is a huge plus. The huge downside to Rochester is they don't record lectures and lectures start right at 9 and go through until 12. Then, at 1-4 there is either lab or a group conference so the days are long especially since after a 9-4 day you have to go back and study more. I didn't get the impression of Einstein having such a rigorous day since the only commitment is lab and the occasional shadowing you do as part of your early clinical experience. Yet, Rochester is higher-ranked, more convenient, and has nicer facilities....so I kind of don't know what to do.
