whats the difference between number 27 and 89

27 asked. There are 12 members of a Demo. party at a meeting. How many groups of 3memberss can be formed:

to solution did 12!/9!3! to get 220

now number 89 asks: how many 3 letter licese plates can be formed from letters A,B,C,D,E,F if each letter is to be used only once?

to me the three letter pretty much represents the 3 members per group of question 27.....and the A,B,C,D,E,F represent the 12 members of the party

in this question they just did 6!/3! to get 120

why do they do it diff?

Because on a license plate there is a big difference between the license plate "cab" and the license plate "bac". Howvwer by that comittee orded doesnt matter at all.
