Im a re-applicant, and just got a rejection letter from Case today. kinda depressing..thought I had a good chance but *hit hits the fan today.

My stats are
overall 3.3
science 3.7
BCP 3.8

PAT 23
AA 21
TS 22 (BIO 22, GC 23, OC 23)
RC 21
QR 18
(My DAT last year was 19,19,20. RC was really low so bad...)

I guess its not good enough for Case, or they dont like something on my application. I have decent amount of shadowing hours and ExC.

I bombed all my 1st, 2nd year GE grades at a community college(GPA 2.7 w/ several F). But worked hard after transferring to 4 yr university (bio major), taking all the science classes there and was only able to pull it up to 3.3 overall.

Im just gonna have to wait and see what happens...Good luck to everyone though.

I am so sorry 🙁 It looks like you're really trying to improve and that says a lot about you. Don't give up hope! I'm sure your hard work will be noticed by other schools. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and that perhaps you weren't meant to go there. I wish you the best of luck!

Case is weird dude...always has been. Your improvement is definitely admirable and your DAT is stellar..def. good enough to get into pretty much any school. Dont worry...you're getting in somewhere

seems like case is rejecting a lot of people with good stats this year. sorry to hear about the rejection but I'm sure you will get plenty of interviews. gl

Case does seem to be pretty strange in their application process. Your DAT scores are definitely competative and your rise in gpa shows your comitment and hardwork. Case was also one of the first schools to reject me in last years cycle but keep your head up and other opportunities will open up for you as they did me. Best of luck to you.

case western basically rejected me also, they sent me a letter saying they want to see my fall 2007 grades, maybe someone nicer sent the letter, an nicer rejection huh, we don't need case, pshhh

Case rejected me last year, when I was a double major (statistics, neuroscience) with good grades, and a 23 AA on my DAT. I'm also a girl (which shouldn't help but does). Granted, I applied really late, but still...I should have gotten at least an interview.

The irony is my now-husband is a 3rd year at Case and I work here doing research. 3 of the faculty members I work with are on the adcom, so I know a little bit about the process. Basically it's a complete mess, and it's kind of a crapshoot. It's all about the earliest applicants. They are also trying to attract independent learners bc of their new PBL curriculum. I'm sure it sucks to hear it, but really, if you get it anywhere else it will be A. cheaper and probably B. a better education. Clinic here is great, but they have a lot of kinks in PBL to work out before kids can pass their boards. Good luck!

As long as the rest of your app is strong I'd think so, esp for Tufts

Hi guys i have a question. I have applied to dental schools in america. the thing is i have had a transcript notation for misconduct in the past but it has been over for a long time now. my question to you guys is should i mention it to the dental school admission people or should i not mention it cuz it is off the records. They might ask me but i could say it was a bad phase in my life. please advice me guys.
I remember there was a place on AADSAS application to explain any misconduct. Just be honest and explain your situation, my 2cents..

I've applied to case too. To me getting an interview would be a bonus. If I get rejected nothing is lost.

Admissions anywhere is pretty much a crapshoot, I don't understand why you feel as if you are owed an interview because of your stats. If you knew people on the adcom and have a husband in the school, why wouldn't you have applied at the earliest possible moment?

So you're saying the PBL year classes will not pass the boards?

Some bold statements there...

when i got in, case had 2,500 applicants. class of 2011 had 3,000 applicants. this year i hear theres over 4,000. so if my math is correct, that's about 150% less chance of getting in.

Does that mean they are looking for 3.8+ with 25+ on DAT?

But damn moralbrain, I have similar stats just like you, and now I am expecting a rejection letter from case...

Dude, I hope this dont happen to you. Dont worry too much cause everyone has different weak spot on the application, and I probably had one that Case wouldnt tolerate. Good luck to you 👍

Actually, I was just talking to my friend and found out that he didnt even receive an interview from Case and was actually outright rejected. He had a 3.5 and 24/24 and had all the right things. (applied early, good exp. etc) He applied to 9 schools and Case was the only school that he didnt even get an interview from.

BCP = "Biology Chemistry Physics", one of the GPAs calculated by AADSAS

Wow..24/24 outright rejected? It really shows the numerical value of stats doesn't really guarantee you anything.. :scared:

I definitely wouldn't say I was owed an interview but now doing research with the students and finding out how THEY did on the DAT and grade wise, I would say I was in the top 10%. You wouldn't believe some of the people offered spots here. You wouldn't know that until you got to know them.

And as far as your second comment, all you have to do is ask any of them how much they think they're learning, and the base they have gotten in didactic training. Administration here is terrified of the passage rate this coming winter.

Wow! Case is definitly changing this year. You did better than me on the DAT and they put my application on hold pending a DAT retake becuase I got an 18 on the RC.

Yeah I'd expect it has to happen sometime. Be hard to get interviews from every single school U apply to if its 9 schools. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. Maybe they gauged his personality from the personal statment and LOEs and weren't too impressed.

we actually had 3500 app our year and they accepted too many people their are 86 in our class when there are supposed to be only 70. they are tightening up so they dont make that mistake again. that is what my opinion is at least

Got my Case rejection letter the other day.

College: UC Davis
BCP: 3.22
SCI: 3.26
CUM: 3.29
DAT: PA 24, QR 19, RC 23, BIO 24, GC 19, OC 26, TS 22, AA 22

Yep, it's my first rejection. Haven't gotten any interviews yet. I thought my stats were pretty decent, but...oh well. No worries though since I applied to 28 other schools 😉.

I still have to do the supplementaries for UCSF, Penn, Nova, MWU, and Arizona. Haven't had much time because of summer classes (I'll be done with UC Davis forever after this Thursday). I will definitely finish them this weekend.

Have you gotten any interviews/rejections yet? Your DAT was so good. Keep me informed!

Slightly off-topic: I started kung fu last week, Choi Lee Fut. It is pretty fun.

I didnt apply to Penn or Arizona, but I just sent in my UCSF secondaries like 2 days ago. I know they havent started giving out interviews so hopefully I will make it.

I got 3 interviews so far, with no rejections. The dates and schools are in my predents profile. I hope I get more, but if I get too many I dont think I am gonna go to all of them. I think I am going to try to schedule around 5interviews before december 1st and the maybe just 3 more after that (if I get that many). I also applied to a bunch of schools, 20+ i believe.

I am also forever done with Davis after this week! Haha, stupid english professor is making me read a 300 page novel in 2 days though so I gotta cram pretty hard.

I am sure you will be fine. Your DAT is one of the really good ones I've seen this cycle; and I can positively say this because I practically go to the DAT forum to look at scores everyday like a loser.

Oh, a word of advice: I called the schools that I applied to to make sure everything gets there. It turned out that there were some problems with my DAT scores so couple schools didnt get it via ADA so I had to straighten it out. AADSAS also messed up my LOR to UNLV and when I called they told me that my commitee LOR packet was missing pages so I had to resend them again.

Good luck to you! Keep me posted on how you are doing! 👍

This is incredible...you have me beat in every category of the DAT (by 1 or 2 points) and I got an interview from Case. My overall GPA is 3.9 and science GPA is 4.0...I guess GPA is a critical factor

i got a retake the dat letter, saying if i do better on the dat they will rethink about me... but for now it is a technical rejection.

I feel you man. I think Case cares about the GPA a lot.😎
Well, I havent got any interview yet either. But like you said, not worrying since I applied to 15 schools. Come on..Give me some interview invitation!!!

I think its more about luck. My GPA is only a little bit higher than smarterray (overall 3.3) but I got an interview invite from Case.

Can any current student clarify this? Do case really favor high GPA over DAT?

i have a 3.69.... 3.7 gpa... sooo they put me on a continuing review...

smarterray, great DAT, sorry about Case, but with 28+ schools and those stats you'll have plenty of interviews coming...

I just heard from Case and they requested an interview, 3.9 GPA and 22/25 DAT. They must favor high GPA's.

Smarterray, do Nova's secondary and get it out. It only take maybe 20 mins. I procrastinated on it way too long when I sat down to do it, I kicked myself because it is so simple.

Rejected two days after they cashed my check....sweet!!! I'm going to withdraw all my other interviews this year because I really want to go to Case! So, I'll study really hard, maybe re-take the 4 years of undergrad to attempt to get a 4.0, study to retake the DAT and shoot for a 30AA, 30SA, and maybe a 28PAT...

Really though, I'm not saying that my stats are the best, but they were competitve enough to get other interviews (or at least consideration), rather than a rejection two days after check cashing. Clearly Case has a specific student in mind, and from the looks of others' stats that have been rejected, it doesn't completely have to do with numbers? I wonder what it is? Maybe the essay is read first, and interviews are being granted based on the use of ostentatious vocabulary... 😴

Thanks for the heads up! I'll do it tomorrow morning.

I looked at your profile and you have great dental experience, but your stats are below their averages. Like it was said in earlier threads with a low GPA 3.14 you would have to have a 22+ to make up for that, I would suggest retaking it.

Reading this thread, I'm trying to figure out how I got an interview at case

Actually, due to the new PBL stuff, they are really looking for people who stand out to them as "independent learners". If anybody indicates they have an inquiring mind, my boss (on the adcom) eats it up.

As a side note, Case doesn't read your essay until after your interview and the members of the adcom who didn't interview you use it to get to know you.
