Prior military service (still in reserves)
37 shadowing hours
pretty good amount of work experience (not all included on application)
a few semesters of leadership role in Veteran's Club along with the small amount of volunteer work

Anyway...

I applied to 10 so far (may apply to 3-5 more as well)

East Carolina (ECU)
UNC - Chapel Hill (UNC)
Nebraska (NEB)
Nevada (UNLV)
Temple (TEMP)
Alabama (ALA)
Kentucky (UK)
Louisville (UL)
Boston (BU)
New England (UNE)

and considering applying to
LECOM
CASE
S Carolina (MSC)
Ohio
Maryland

Thoughts??

Yea I plan to get some more shadowing.. I just wont be able to annotate it on my application since I already submitted.. hopefully on a secondary or during interview I can highlight the additional shadowing...

yea I didn't list my scores because its in my signature.. 22AA/22TS/21PAT/23RC/22BIO/22GC/24OC/20QR .. GPAs in the 3.3 range

However my GPA is so low because of my terrible work ethic at community college in the 2004-2007 time frame.. my last 5 semesters at a UNC-Asheville is where I took Ochem, Genetics, Molecular Bio, Cell Bio, Anatomy, Stats, Calc..etc.. I finished Magn Cum Laude, Distinction in Bio Dept with 3.78 GPA

@doc toothache has a list somewhere around here that lists how many shadowing hours each school requires... I'd search it up for you but I'm on mobile, so hopefully somebody else comes through (or you end up searching for it yourself 😛).

Hi there,

I was prior AF, a little trick to increase your shadow/volunteers hours.

Go to the base dental clinic and ask for their Red Cross volunteers program, and tell the NCOIC /dental sq comm you need more hours for applying dental schools. They will try the best to get u into the clinic either as a volunteer assistant or as a student shadowing a dentist.

Good luck! PM me if u have questions regarding the process. I am starting DS in Sep

What state is your official residency? I think you jumped the gun a bit on the applications without having the minimum shadowing hours. I would have waited to get those hours in before submitting. I thought Nebraska only took in-state and from neighboring states w/o a dental school but I could be wrong about that.
