I'm having a super hard time making a decision, but (not surprisingly) there are no threads about comparing these two schools. So, here goes nothing.

RVU vs. UNE

I'm from New York originally and went to school in Massachusetts, so going out west seems like a great opportunity. But the program at UNE seems a little more appealing... I know these schools are like apples and oranges but if anyone has a strong opinion for/against either of these schools, I'd really appreciate some input. Thanks everyone!

Right now I'm torn between a low-tier MD school vs. Nova. I would love to have an MD title, but Nova is amazing, and the location is 100000x better. You just can't beat Miami. In the end...do what feels right.

UNE puts you in the Northeast, with your main clinical rotations within driving distance of Boston, Philly, and NYC. These cities have an abundance of residencies This will make scheduling away/audition rotations on a budget much easier. If you don't have piles of cash lying around to buy plane tickets for audition rotations, I'd go with UNE for this very reason.

FWIW, I chose RVU because I loved the atmosphere at the interview, their curriculum and thus board scores are awesome so far, and what can beat Colorado for stuff to do outside of school for stress relief? Go with what you feel best fits you, though, because in the end that's where you'll be happiest! 🙂

I know nothing about RVU (and have heard mixed reviews), but UNE is really a great school. Plus... it's pretty cool that they're the #1 supplier of doctors in Maine! UNE is well established and has pretty good match results.

However, UNE will end up costing you somewhere around $25k more in tuition if that makes a difference to you. I believe class sizes are similar... (150 at RVU and ~200 at UNE with their recent increase).

Hopefully that's at all helpful.

This was super helpful, thanks everyone.

I've finally figured o ut that I like the actual program at UNE, but the opportunity of living in Colorado. If you had to choose between a curriculum you like vs a location you like, which would you pick?

Curriculum.

I always encourage people to go where they will be happy because they will make the most of it... but in this case if there is clearly a curriculum you like more, you will make the most out of that curriculum on the very principle that you like it more.

Plus, (AND IM NOT SAYING ITS DEFINITELY A NEGATIVE) you dodge all the quandries that the for profit status of RVU carries. And there is anecdotal and statistical evidence that it is having some negative impact. But correlation doesnt equal causation, as the saying goes.
