another Should-I-retake-it? question..

Hi, I took my second DAT yesterday and here are my first and second DAT scores.

** 1st DAT
PAT 20
QR 20
RC 16
BIO 18
GCHEM 20
OCHEM 17
TS 19
AA 18

**2nd DAT
PAT 22
QR 29 😀
RC 17 😱
BIO 20
GCHEM 23
OCHEM 22
TS 21
AA 22

What I'm concerning about is my RC and GPA.. My GPA is 2.97 now. I know it will go up to 3.1x by the end of the summer semester, but until the grades are released in Aug., it will stay as it is. I will apply early anyway because I can always send my updated transcript. So I really had to nail the DAT this time, like 25+, but it turned out I didn't. To make the matters worse, my RC is sooooo low.. 🙁 I think I got too freaked out when I read the passages because I knew it was my weakest area.. what my eyes were reading didn't seem to get to the brain. 😕 I used to get 18-20 for RC section on the DAT Achiever though. maybe it's easier than the real one?? I would stand out because of the poor RC score... Do you guys think that I have to re-retake the DAT?? or do you think I have a chance??

21+ in all sections but 1, that section being RC?

I think you're set with those scores, I have a similiar GPA and that's about what I'm shooting for...

I am thinking of applying for Temple, UoP, and Tufts. Do you think I have a chance at those schools? Where else can I apply for? 😕

Your scores are good. Though the 17 might be a little low for UOP. You look good for Temple, but I don't know anything about Tufts.

With your GPA though, you REALLY should consider applying to more schools then just 3. Probably 10+ just to cover your bases. I can't think of any off the top of my head, you might want to head over to the pre-dent forum and ask there.

But in the meantime, DON'T RETAKE! You run the risk of going down because your scores are so high and that's the last thing you want to do.

I doubt you have even the slightest chance at UOP. Temple -- maybe.. but again, it depends. Shoot for NYU and BU.

Considering a lot of people pull 22 AAs and have a 3.5 or higher are applying for admission, you need to have some stellar LORs and a really decent personal statement, if you can do that, I'd say your chances aren't too bad. Unfortunately, you run the risk of them throwing your app out due to your sub par GPA...but keep pushing it up and apply within reason, good luck!

You definitely shouldn't apply to just NYU and BU. But apply to more than 3 schools.

you will be fine for Temple and Tufts. With UOP you gotta apply very very early. They tend to fill up their interview list pretty quick.
