I know the topic has been beat to death, but I've been thinking about this over the past few days: is a W ever acceptable? In my case, for example, I'm taking 15 credits this semester (cell bio, genetics, physiology, and condensed matter physics) while working full time and studying for an MCAT retake (I was going to take in January but got sick on the test date. stupid flu). It's looking like I'll have to get a second job to pay bills/debt while the wife is in nursing school. I had an unsuccessful cycle two years ago, so this is purely post-bac work.

Now with that background: I want to drop the condensed matter physics course. I'm acing everything in the biology courses without any issues, but the physics course is kicking my tail. I was told by the professor back in the fall that it would be more of a "survey of" type of course, but since then he has done an about-face on that and has stated to the class that he would "make it as tough as possible because everyone is a senior and your GPA doesn't matter at this point." I could still make an A in the course with a tremendous amount of time (which I possibly don't have) and effort, but when that could be better spent doing some MCAT review, is it really worth it? This would be the only W on my entire transcript. Anybody here with similar experiences? (I hope this is the right forum to post this in, by the way. Apologies if it isn't.)

I don't think it would be an issue. I have two on my transcript, one is in Bio I, and it was never an issue in my interview or the feedback I got from the interview committee.

Withdraw - no one will care about one W.

But, if you have the chance, see if you can pass/fail it. That would look even better.
