Hey guys,

I received an interview at a school that I don't have a pre-req for. I should hear back from them by the end of January at the latest, but I'm worried I'll get waitlisted. Is it possible to get an acceptance without having this pre-req completed? Is there any way I could get this pre-req waived? I'm in my gap year rn, and unless they give me an acceptance before classes start next semester, it doesn't make sense to quit my job to take a hard class. What do I do? 🙁

Best,
Yes, you can be accepted without having pre-reqs completed. The contingency is that they expect you to have it completed prior to matriculation. Did you say you were going to complete this course on the transcript section of your primary? I can't imagine schools waiving a pre-req for you, but that's not to say it hasn't been done before.

Unless you have other acceptances to lean on, I highly recommended finding this course to enroll in before it's too late. There's no reason for you to quit your job to take one hard class. It might be hard but you can do it.

Schools can easily withdraw an acceptance from you for not completing pre-reqs. It's a high price to pay for not taking one class.

Is there a possibility they might not notice? 🤣 I did not say I was going to complete this course. They require 6 ***Credits of organic chemistry, I have 4, but also have 3 credits of "undergraduate chem open seminar" (teaching organic chemistry I) not sure if that counts, but hesitant to call and make them aware of my situation (might not even offer an A at that point). I do have biochem, but can't find if they substitute.

Fixed ***semesters to Credits lol

Six semesters of organic chemistry? Are you sure it isn't six QUARTERS?

I assure you that they will not let this slide. You will be rescinded if you fail to meet their requirements by matriculation and don't get them waived. That being said...I suspect you misread what they're asking for. Usually it's 2 years of organic chem = 4 semesters = 6 quarters.

first of all, there is no such thing as 6 semesters of organic chemistry... what are you talking about?

regardless....
1) you sound really confused.
2) they WILL notice, and take the acceptance away
3) contact the school and go over the credits one by one TOMORROW. to make sure you can register for whatever you are missing for spring semester.

my bad, im anxious and wrote 6 semesters instead of credits lol.
If this is your only II/best bet, I'd recommend finding somewhere to take organic chemistry 2 this spring ASAP. Don't wait to hear back just in case. Shouldn't be too difficult since you taught Organic 1 so your foundation should be solid! Teaching Organic 1 won't cut it as far as I'm aware.

Yup! I also taught organic 1 and received 3 credit hours
some schools do accept biochem 1 instead of organic 2, so call your school TOMORROW and ask them!!!!!! jesus. Dont ask us!! 🙂. we dont work for that school. Be proactive, if you are serious about wanting to be a doctor. Because they will take away that acceptance in a heartbeat, trust me.

You right lol. I'm just worried that if I call and ask, they might red flag my application or something and not offer an A

they wont red flag if you call and ask. It shows maturity.

ok let me explain you something. For the rest of your medical education and residency at the very least you will be constantly going through some sort of trainings, fullfilling some sort of requirements, etc. It is annoying and exhausting, but this is just part of the process. Addressing things in a timely manner, openly acknowledging if you miss deadlines, taking responsibility for your education is part of the professionalism. So, calling that school and showing them that you want to make sure you are are 100% ready because you value their time and yours will only show maturity. Hoping they wouldnt notice honestly doesnt paint you in a good light....
so, call them tomorrow and get this taken care of.

Some schools do ask if you meet the requirements by by the time you matriculate and clearly list them. You are taking bigger risk by not calling.
