Any actual MINUSES to being a DO?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Hahahahah ... great thread. I better put on my war paint and sharpen my sword because you KNOW that this will get ugly tomorrow. Matter of hours before the first 17 year old pre allo freshman states his/her infinite knowledge about the various drawbacks of a DO.

My blood type is DO-negative

That was ******ed

I admitted that it was ******ed right after I typed it. What more do you want?

And the night is still young. I get off work in 2.5 hours.

I was hoping for a signed apology. I expected more. I'm disappointed.

👍 Nice thread.

You have no idea how much it's taken in me to avoid reading that other thread. And now I see that there is a 2nd page that has been added and I hope that is because it's those stupid 18 year old *****s writing on and on about how osteo medicine doesn't exist and not because there are pre-osteo people believing they have to defend their position. :bang:

I know OMM helps define Osteopathic medicine but it is certainly not practiced by the majority of DO's. To most it is a skill learned then forgotten.

I'm interested in OMM and it will surely help with understanding the musculoskeletal system but for some it may be a class where the students go through the motions because they have to.

HA. i laughed. sometime the stupid jokes that you know are stupid are the funniest. at least to me.

me and my friends were walking down the street and we get to a one way street that has the typical arrow and the sign.... well i didnt see the sign that had the street name so i was like "dude no way that is awesome, they named the street "one way?""

probably the stupidest joke ive ever said, but it got some laughs.

I once was on a "blind date", one of those setups of a friend's girlfriend, and the girl I was with did something similar...

We drive by a Circle K gas station (not funny if you don't know what a circle K is) and she says, as she looks up to the sing and has an epiphany "Oooohhh so that's why they call it Circle K". The problem is she was dead serious.

Any actual MINUSES to being a DO?

Four additional years of the hardest school you've ever had (after the 16+ already completed) all designed to prepare you for many additional years of intimate contact with the sickest human beings in your area. The constant reminder in the faces of patients that life is quite finite and that we have remarkably little control over it. The daily growing realization that most people you have dedicated your life to helping will not make much effort to help themselves. The crushingly frustrating ongoing experience of being neck-deep in a healthcare system that is 99% profit, lawyers, pharmaceuticals and colossal corporations and 1% compassion for the sick and education about health.

Yeah, there are some minuses, but all the DOs I've spoken with have the same answer to the question, "Would you prefer to have pursued a alternate career to being a physician?"

If you meant are there minuses to being having a DO degree rather than an MD degree, then I would say not if your primary motivation for becoming a physician is to help sick people.

Yes a big minus is if you already got MD tatoo'd on your rearend, it could be hard to explain that to the ladies when you are DO.

It's not that big of a deal ... I just tell people I'm from Maryland and have a lot of state pride.

gee thx for gettin all serious on us....

My bad.

I meant to type:

What did one snowman say to the other?
Answer: There are no minuses to being a DO. By the way, do you smell carrots?

But I typed that serious stuff instead on accident. See it was my first post on the forums. I'm new 🙂
