Hey everyone,

I'm planning on submitting my AMCAS and AACOMAS apps within the next few weeks. I'm debating on whether to retake the MCAT in early September to bring up my verbal score... Do you think it's worth applying with these stats (specifically with that verbal score)?

GPA: 3.77
MCAT: 29O - 11 PS, 7 VR, 11 BS
2 publications, shadowing, clinical research, basic science research, classical pianist, 2 mission trips, tutor

Any thoughts? Thanks!

1. What's your state of residence?

2. Where all are you applying?

I'm a New Jersey resident and planning on applying to the following schools:

MD: UMDNJ-Robert Wood, UMDNJ-New Jersey, Jefferson Medical College, Drexel, Albert Einstein, New York Medical College, George Washington, Georgetown, Boston University, Wake Forest, University of Miami, Rush University, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola - Stritch, Temple

DO: PCOM (Philadelphia), UMDNJ-SOM, VCOM, AT Still, Lake Erie-Bradenton

No clinical experience? Stat-wise you're very competitive for DO. For MD I'd say that you're competitive but you might want to consider finding a few more schools. Your applying to 4 schools ( Gtown, GWU, BU, NYMC) which individually receive more then 20k applications making acceptance statistically pretty low there then most schools even if you're competitive for them.

My clinical experience consists of the clinical research, which involved working in the ER screening and enrolling patients in certain studies, and I'm in the process of becoming an EMT. I know that my clinical experience is probably my weak point, other than the 7 in verbal reasoning.

Would it be better to be an EMT for the next year, retake the MCAT, and apply next cycle instead?

I suppose you can call that clinical experience. I wouldn't say that you should just sit out this cycle. I honestly think that you've got a extremely good chance of getting into a medical school this round. But if you're worried you might want to add a few more DO schools.

bump!

Any other thoughts or opinions? Is it worth retaking the MCAT in September to bring up that 7 in verbal reasoning? Or maybe I should just wait and see if I get accepted instead of putting myself through all of the studying again!
