I was very happy when I found a free clinic in my area to volunteer . I only volunteered about 15-20 hours for about 2 months, but I enjoyed it. Then one of the practioners went on medical leave or left (not sure entirely). They asked me if I could help with some other things but I never heard back from them since. I have followed up to see if I could volunteer but in Febuary they said they didn't need help. I'm wondering since the activity only went for 2 months, what I should do about this in my application. I thought about including it in the description of the activity why I only volunteered for a short period of time but I also did include it in my personal statement. I don't want this to be viewed negatively. Thanks!

Hey there! So medical schools love seeing applicants do activities for extended periods of time, right? It shows commitment to others and of course to the medical profession. I would suggest talking about how much you enjoyed it even though it was for such a short period. Maybe say that though they aren't looking for help at this time you plan to continue to apply for any open positions because you value their mission and adored the people you worked with. Talk about the experience and how it shaped you. Then perhaps talk about why you want to continue working there? I had a similar issue when I applied because I could only work at certain places during the summer. I talked up my experiences in my applications/interviews and they seemed to like it. If you get the chance to return do so. But make sure your application states that you are actively looking to continue your journey there and explain why 🙂 Best of luck!
