Larkin is a very small hospital, for profit, and is not an academically affiliated psychiatry residency program. (e.g. UM & FIU/Citrus are however)

Larkin's training sites include Borinquen Clinic, Miami Beach Community Center, Jessie Trice Community and Community Health of South Florida. You would be flying solo and winging it. The physicians at these facilities are called not so affectionately as "carniceros" in Spanish (butchers). It would be a slaughter for you.

If you have no where else to match, and have earned an MD or DO Degree at x, y or z medical school, your Step scores aren't stellar and you desperately need graduate training in something, then perhaps beggars can't be choosy and so Larkin might fit the bill.

However, Larkin is not a place where you should be training in any field of medicine. Leading, perhaps, but not training.

You asked. And yes, my information is based on personal experience

your other posts on SDN are ones inquiring what career you can pursue without a Residency.

Thus, your continued interest in Larkin means you need them regardless of the salary. You can call them and inquire about their present salary but considering your previous posts, beggars cant choosy. go after them and make the best of it. Having an MD and not completing a Residency program makes you unmarketable.

I’m planning to do an elective at Larkin this September for Internal Medicine, since I’m from Miami and I would like to stay close to home. Can anybody tell me their experience with IM there? Thank you

I did an elective there as a 4th year medical student early 2013. During my elective month, there were about 5 IM residents rounding on a census of 10 patients. Most of their time was spent looking like doctors while saying things that didn't make sense. I still remember being told by a senior resident that a primary treatment for atrial fibrillation was an IVC filter. The residents didn't know what proper urine output was, they didn't know how to run fluids, they didn't know how to dose insulin. If you want to be called doctor while making a career out of unintentionally killing several patients a year then you should train at Larkin.
