I have trouble with a lot of these - I tried counting solid line/dashed line, but it gets confusing. Do I just have to keep very good track of the order of the lines, like 3 solid, 2 dash, 5 solid....etc.. ?

Sometimes it's hard for me to picture the actual 3D figure, even when looking at the answer and the 3 views with lines..

Any help would be most appreciated...!

I see pattern folding tips have been offered before--I'll certainly look through those, but any more advice to add? That's another section I tend to struggle with for some. Do you just pick one and try to match/eliminate?

im sure you will get more responses but i HEAVILY suggest not using the counting method, for not even a SINGLE question on my dat came up where the counting method worked. The counting method is NOT a reliable method anymore.

Trust me, i made that mistake.

As stated, the line counting method will set you up for failure if you solely rely on it. The key is to be able to tell whether a line is dotted or solid based on how the object is presented (whether it be from the top/bottom, front/back, or sides). I'd focus on one portion of the object and try to see if a particular segment matches with any of the answers and start eliminating choices that way for TFE. As for pattern folding, it's highly recommended that you jump right into the answer choices and eliminate.

I failed my PAT section the first time because i was counting lines, and on test day not even a single question involved counting. The questions were more tricky, you have to practice visualizing the structures. If you have CRACK PAT exams, they have a little tutorial on each section. It helps, good luck

thanks very much. I was reading through a lot of the previous threads and was thinking I needed to practice with counting lines.
