I am a recent graduate from a major university in my state of residence and was looking into Pharmacy school. My Bachelor's degree is in Chemistry but finished with a 2.85 overall GPA, although my Pre-Pharmacy GPA is a 3.4. My upper-level Chemistry courses, as well as some upper-level math courses that I took throughout my college years significantly effected my GPA. I am looking into retaking a physics and a psychology class is bringing down my Pre-Pharmacy GPA, in order to give myself a better chance at getting into Pharmacy school. I have not taken my PCAT yet, but plan to take it in the spring while I am retaking a couple of my prerequisite classes to raise my GPA. Was anyone else in my particular situation while applying to Pharmacy schools? Does anyone have any particular pharmacy schools that you feel I may be more competitive among the pool of applicants and have a chance to get in? I would appreciate any advice that is given. Thanks.

South Carolina-- the school I graduated from, U. of South Carolina, has a pharmacy program but I'm not sure if I will be competitive enough to get in. The Medical Univ. of South Carolina and the University of SOuth Carolina have a joint Pharmacy program and was the only one in the state up until recently.. Presbyterian College is just getting a pharmacy program in the fall of 2010... but was thinking my chances may be better outside of SC.

New programs are usually easier to get into. Look into the reputation of the dean and initial faculty to see if they are going to be on the ball for getting the school to accreditation so you're able to get your license after you graduate. Definitely take the pre-req courses over that aren't quite up to snuff.
