This year I applied in three AEGD programs, at UConn, Univ of Rochester and Howard(back then i didn't know I had to be african to get in).
Those programs give stipends to foreign grad's(or at least where I managed to meet the dead lines), so I decided that it will be nice to have it in my resume for MS, without giving an arm and a leg. BUT! ! !

None of them bothered to even send me a rejection letter.

As they have MATCHing I thought that they'll have to call almost everybody for an interview. But the MATCH dead line approaches.

So any body had the same experience???

ivanBG,

I think you have to have your degree from an accredited dental school to apply in Howard programs.
Where does it say that you have to be an african to apply?

You have good credentials and you should get admission to advanced DDS without much worries, I guess.

Well, they told me that they accept foreign graduates at their AEGD program, despite what's in their web site. But 80% of students there are blacks, according to the university's Affirmative Action politics. If you are black, you can be accepted in MD program there with GPA about 2.5🙂

Well I applied in Advanced Standing programs (unfortunately only in two), but I hoped to learn somethng new instead of refreshing not so well forgoten stuff...

Hi ivanBG,
Univ. of Connecticut just had their deadline on 15th nov, they will now review the applications and send out invitations for interviews. they call 80 people for 18 places, match deadline for AEGD, GPR is far away, its not even open yet, its in Dec-Jan. the first phase (ortho) deadline is approaching.
Call them up and see what they have to say about interviews, i mean howard and Rochester, u can talk to the program director and ask him/her to review your file or give an opinion about your status. most of them would be co-operative. and i agree with your point, its better to learn something new..

hi

I would agree with you all , but if you are looking for learning new ,i think you can get it in your country in one of the epeciality programs. the reason most of us are here is working on the field which we had learned before ,but you want to acheive another degree that you can not practice after graduation perhaps if you can ,there are alot of restrictions.
it is like we want to start at the end.
most of foreign dentists have finished their denitistry program during six years, and whatever they paid for their studies i think are much less than the dentist who graduated at the us university .four years college and four years dentistry program.
in my opinion it is fair if we spend two years aditional to get american degree which is first requirment for every thing like getting liscence ,entering the speciality program, etc.
most of all professors at my dental school are us graduated ,
whenever i asked them why you didn,t peactice in the us ,they said because they didn,t have DDS OR DMD degree from us ,just they ,ve got speciality program.

bye

ivanBG,
I guess by now, you should have heard from the scools about interviews.
I am not sure how many total international students are accepted in GPR / AEGD programs, but they are not lot.
With your scores you shouldn't have any problems,
Let us keep posted, about interviews.

SCK,
How's your Ortho interviews ?
I remember you wrote about it few weeks back.

Hi explorer,
My ortho interview was pretty good, but i didnt get it!!!! they called 50 people for 8 places and the ones accepted were all american school graduates. Will learn from another school in Dec.

sck,
How you know that without MATCH.
I think you should still count on the program till MATCH date.
It is my understanding that all ortho programs participate in MATCH.
Well, in any case getting interview is also an achivement.
what is your alternative /back up plan ?
Have you applied to AEGD/ GPR ?
or any advanced standing program ?

Hi Explorer,
Sent u a pm. do check it.

Hi, before deciding what was it that I wanted to do, I was planning on applying to URocherster AEGD. I never did, but now I wonder how hard is it to get in there. Anybody knows what does it takes for foreign graduates to get a spot in AEGD programs at URochester or any other school in the US?

Meggs,
it is very valid question, but only person who has the answer is program director.
None of these program has any specific written criteria.
Initially I thought, may be board scores, but it is not.
Probably they look for your school's reputation in general, and your clinical experience in particular.
