* I am Mexican (URM)
* cGPA - 3.275
* sGPA - 3.712
* MCAT - 518
* I have research (no pubs)
* >600 hours clinical volunteering
* >600 hours non-clinical volunteering
* One "standout" EC (I don't want to say what it is for the sake of preserving my anonymity)
* 6 years of full-time non-clinical employment (40+ hrs/week)
* Strong upward trend

So everything is pretty solid other than that abysmal cGPA. I'm worried that will keep me out of medical school. The reason for the low cGPA is that I received several F's and D's (in classes like "intro to philosophy" and "women's studies 101") towards the beginning of my college career due to several reasons which I will go into in my application (secondaries) and interviews if given the opportunity
but I won't bore you with that here. I'm hoping that since my sGPA and MCAT score are both solid that can maybe make up for the poor cGPA? Since the only poor grades I received were from a long time ago and were in really easy classes that just about anybody could do well in, I'm hoping that won't cause adcoms to doubt my capabilities as a student? Idk...would appreciate some input from you guys! Thank you! 🙂

Side Note: With grade replacement, my cGPA is like 3.8 because I retook the F/D classes and got A's in all of them. Safe to say I am bummed about the new DO grade replacement change lol.

Where is your state of residence? You are competitive for any DO school with your stats.

Thank you for the reply! I am a CA resident, which is going to put me at a disadvantage, right?

You have a good chance for MD interviews if you apply broadly. Apply to all your CA schools and consider these:
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
GW
Georgetown
Oakland Beaumont
Medical College Wisconsin
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
Miami
Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July. apply to at least 6 DO schools also.

You're fine. Apply broadly, starting with your state MD school.

Evidence of committee to community will work wonders.
