How important is RC?????!! I really need to get in this cycle....if I have to retake the DAT, it will be in October! Probably too late?

Before you decide on a retake call the schools you applied to, most of them will tell you straight up if they think a 16 in RC is ok.

according to doc toothache's GPA-DAT min requirement list from 2009, Indiana is the only school that reported a RC cut off of 18. I've always heard that the RC is important. i work for kaplan, and they always tell me that professional schools look at how well you can read and analyze a large volume of text in a short amount of time, since the rigor of the first academic year can be excruciating with all the classes you'll be taking at once. That being said, kaplan is filled with brilliant individuals who were lazy in college and couldn't get into medical and dental schools themselves bc of bad gpa's lol. look - you already applied. you'll be fine. go drink some wine, spend some time with the family, and relax.

October is a bit late so if you retake, it'll be for next cycle (i.e. make sure you kill it the next time properly and don't rush). A 16 is definitely not a good score, but the rest of your application and scores tell a great deal about how capable you are.

Good luck with the app and remember, as helpful as SDN maybe, we here are just pondering aloud. The only folks who can give you certain answers are those who work for adcoms.

yea I'm on the same boat with similar but a bit higher stats
3.78 ogpa/ 3.86 bcp/science
21aa 20pat 21 ts 24 qr 16 rc 24gchem 21 ochem 20 bio
2 interviews so far and I'm hoping that rc's not gonna pull me down
apparently i had a mild stomach pain during that rc section and i couldn't concentrate...

sure, I'm a CA resident n i applied pretty broadly
uop/ ucla/ westernU/ usc/ midwestern AZ/ UNLV/ nova/ turfs/ temple/ BU/ nyu/ (2nd batcher)

so far ive gotten interviews from nova and midwestern AZ (both are ofcourse preDEC)

dont worry too much, there're a lot more aspects to your application then the numbers. No one really knows what the adcoms really want and looking for among each applicant. Just applied early/ broadly and relax. I personally think my application is pretty strong besides that rc score so...
I was freaking out about "cut-off?" and such prior to the interviews , especially midwestern where they'd want 18 all across or something but it turned out not everything is set in stone.

I am actually in a similar situation as you on the RC section, but alot worst when it comes to QR. Here are my stats,

I have a 3.9 sGPA and 3.85 oGPA...I called a few schools they said QR of 14 is ok, but most of them said RC of 16 is low and it is one of the most important sections on the DAT. This is my experience. So i think you are in alot better situation that I am even though my GPA is higher. Just relax you will be fine.
