I took PHysics Two twice and did quite horribly both times i did it. (I just had the guts to check the grade now and it really is *really* *really* bad 🙁 ) Now I've already asked the Admissions at SUNY (Dr. Johnston) about doing badly in this class and if i still have any chances. He told me that I should do well in the Physics OAT to prove that I have some aptitude in the material. Has anyone gotten less than a C (i'm talking C- or even D) in any pre-req class and still gotten into SUNY or any other optometry school? I'm really nervous about my chances now so any words of wisdom/comfort or just maybe i should reconsider my choice in profession?

THanks for any thoughts~

Yeah, I got a C- in one of my organic chem classes (probably about a C average overall in all of my o-chem classes), but did fairly well (340-350?) on the OAT o-chem section. My scores were a 330 AA and 350 TS by the way. I got into SUNY, Berkeley and SCCO. Just do really well in your OAT...make sure to ace that physics section!!!

Words of wisdom: if you truly want to get into optometry school, then don't ever quit because the chances are highly likely that you'll get in if you keep at it. Trust me, admissions committees like to hear about dedication. I wrote in one of my essays - I never let my failures or shortcomings to stop me from ever achieving my goals. I was in your shoes once before too...don't worry, next thing you know, you'll be in optometry school before you even know it! Good luck!!!

I got a bad grade the first time i took Mechanics (the only D I've gotten in my entire life), but then retook it a few years later and got an A. Then, scored very well on the physics section of the OAT.

If you can show them you understand the material, one bad grade won't completely kill your application.

I had a C- in physics II, and still got accepted to UMSL. Alot of schools for pre-reqs dont look at the +/- grades, so a C- and C+ pretty much both count as C's, and most schools aslong as you have a C your good to go. Just ensure that you do well on the OAT and the rest of your GPA is alteast average to get in, and you should be fine.

Thank you so much to all for your encouraging replies! PHysics OAT doesn't seem so bad so far and i do intend to do well in it come February. I guess i could also write about why the grade i got is not a true reflection of the effort i put in and the amount that I understand.

Thanks so much for that! I truly do want to get in and i think i'll keep trying at it no matter how many times I apply. I 'm just really nervous since my gen chem grades werent' that high either. 🙁 Hopefully this coming spring semester will be a better semester for my pre-req grades though. 👍

But i really do not want to do PHY II another time. THat would be way too much and i've already decided that Physics 2 and i will never get along. :/😱 😱

Thanks again to everyone who replied. 🙂👍
