Just exploring the options

Any comments on the PsyD from the Hong Kong campus of Alliant.

I know it's not APA accredited, because it's awarded outside the US.

I'm from the UK and want to work in Asia anyway, works out at approx $64000 for the entire programme over 4 years.

It's taught at the School of Professional Education part of the City University of Hong Kong which has a ranking of 151 according to the Times Education Rankings. I know UK universities also provide degrees which are taught at SCOPE.

It's also possible to do an internship in the States, not sure how realistic this is though.

If I took this option and did decide to work in the US or Australia, surely it's just a case of taking the board exams?

Hopefully someone will respond who has more experience with this than I do. From what I have heard, though, there are several difficult hoops you need to jump through if you did not attend an APA accredited program or at least something very similar in structure to APA accredited programs. It will require more than simply passing the boards. I believe that the U.S. is more lenient with accredited schools in Canada, as the CPA and APA accreditation used to transfer across the border. However, it seems like the UK system and the system in Hong Kong are so different from the American system, that I think it would take a significant amount of work to obtain a license in the U.S. even with a degree and license overseas.

The requirements will also vary by state. I live in a state with stricter requirements, so even people who graduated from APA accredited programs who moved here have to take extra classes to obtain their license to practice.

i am studying Psychology in Hong Kong and hope i can help.
For the program, it does not provide any placements and it is not recognized as a clinical psychologist in Hong Kong after completing the program. In hong Kong, only master program of clinical psychology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The University of Hong Kong are recognized.
SO, if you want to be a clinical psychologist in Hong Kong, it is no use for studying this program.
For the other area of Asia, I am not sure if this program is recognized.

Hope this info can help.

I was going to say to avoid it because of the accreditation issues, but based on the response above, even the reasoning for some to do it would be thrown out the window if it won't be recognized.

Thanks Carolo

The info on this forum is great, saves so much hassle.

Are you actually on the course at Alliant or at one of the HK Uni's?
