Any consultant pharmacists out there please share your

My current preceptor/DoP was a consultant pharmacist for about 10 years. Said it was the best job he ever had. He was basically his own manager, which was the biggest plus. He had to give it up because of the extensive travel involved.

He was talking to me the other day about how he helped a facility prepare for a survey, so he would participate in mock surveys, tracers, etc.

Sounds like it's a good gig if you're single or without children.

I spent a few days with a consultant pharmacist at my last rotation. He does consulting a few days per week (M,T,W usually) and works a few days at a grocery store pharmacy. Basically goes to nursing homes and reviews their charts. After you've been to a place a few times, it gets easier since you already know the majority of the info, and are looking for any significant changes. Since they're long term care, they're pretty stable and there are not many changes.

PharmB and Ackj thanks for sharing.
Pharm B I hope I have the same experience as your preceptor.
