i'm an MS3 and had the idea of writing a book related to gas. Anyone have any cool ideas that someone at my level could put together that a PD may find amusing. This is sort of something i always wanted to do.

if you were told, then it wouldn't be your book, would it?

😕

No offense, but what a weird idea. First off, you don't know enough as an MS3 to write a book on anesthesia - even a humorous one. And, secondly, if you try to make it "amusing" it almost undoubtedly will have the opposite of its intended effect. Lastly, if you're fishing for ideas here, then I would think this should be proof enough to you of the validity of those previous two points.

And, furthermore...

You want to impress a PD? Get solid board scores and good letters of recommendation. Show up for your interview and be serious. Answer all their questions honestly. Be pleasant and smile. Use humor appropriately without appearing like a clown. Don't get rattled by tough questions. And, most importantly, be yourself.

There was an old book titled "Anesthesia for the Unintersted", Birch and Tolmie.

Short paperback book from the 1976, with a 2cnd edition in 1986 that covered all a med student need to know; pretty funny and with a lot of bikini clad models. I always thought an updated version of this book would be great!

I agree with Copro.. especially after you bluntly state:

any cool ideas that someone at my level could put together that a PD may find amusing

I'm not saying it wouldn't be worthwhile... but if that's your primary reason, its not worth the time or effort. Far more efficient spending that time shadowing anesthesiologists for good LOR and contacts/research/and as copro said, dedicating time for your USMLE. If you don't reach the cutoff scores of most programs, they won't even look at your application, let alone your book.
