Any cool summer programs out there?

If you live in NY try summer youth. Work with kids. Get paid. Get some cash in your pocket before going on to college. 😎

Or, call up your local hospital and ask to shadow a pro 😎

if u want to do research, you should look into the university of florida's Student Science Training Program (SSTP). its 7 weeks during the summer where u live in the dorms and do research with faculty from the university. its really fun and u can even get some college credits! its a bit expensive but there's scholarships available. they're accepting applicants now. go check it out!

You a junior, right?

There are some cool summer college programs which let you take college classes in HS as a part of a residential program (you live at the college). Surprisingly these programs are actually fun because you're only taking classes like 3-6 hours a day and the other time you just hang out with people and there's activities that the programs offer. I went to the University of Delaware program and really enjoyed it, but you should just go to one at a good public university in your state. I think mine cost about $2k for 5 weeks, but my parents somehow claimed a tax credit and maybe 30-50% of it was returned.

I agree with the state university idea proposed by bacillus1. I have applied for a summer residential program at a college that is mostly funded by the state. Out of pocket costs is around $700, and it's for a whole month. If it's not too late to apply, ask your guidance counselor if you can still be admitted into one of these programs.

+1 Agree

I plan on shadowing or volunteering in a hospital this summer.

Hillsdale College Summer Science Camps-I went the past 2 yrs and got 2 college credits. Don't do the math one. The 5-day residential camp was only like $100 and the rest is covered by a foundation. Google it! Message me if you end up going and I can tell you more-it was great! People came from 29 states.

In High School, I had a blast at every single one of my summer programs. Here is where I went:
Phillips Academy at Andover: http://www.andover.edu/SUMMERSESSIONOUTREACH/Pages/default.aspx
Junior Statesman of America at Yale www.jsa.org (there are many held all over)
Harvard University Secondary School Program www.summer.harvard.edu/2010/programs/ssp/ (my favorite program of them all, and not so hard to get into)

Most of these programs have generous financial aid packages if you qualify.
If you can't get away, look into taking classes at your local community college.

Type in high school summer programs in google and you will see tons of options.

Good luck!

research science institute is probably the best summer program there is. it's for rising seniors. admittance rate is lik 4% i think, so it's not easy to get into.
