Hello,
I have a few questions about LECOM-Erie if there is a current student that has a few minutes. I have been accepted and am trying to decide where to go. Please PM me if you wouldn't mind answering a question or two about your rotations and residency prospects.

Thanks.

I was accepted as well and trying to make a decision on where to go. I was thinking that since the town is kind of isolated that it would be a little tricky finding rotations that are near by. Do you mind sharing what you found out about rotations and residency?

Well, these are my questions if any current students can field them:

1) They said at my interview that when doing IPPE and APPE you choose from a big list of places, few of which are located at Erie. I am concerned about the potential major hassle of trying to find housing and having to relocate every six weeks for each rotation. Can you comment on this? Whereabouts are the major locations in which students do rotations? The school said rotations are available all over the country, but I can't imagine that we can go virtually anywhere to do them.
2) As far as residency goes, I am also planning on doing at least a PGY1 and probably a PGY2. What are the prospects for LECOM graduates in finding a residency? Do most graduates who want one place for one? I have been told that one should attend the most prestigious school possible for the purposes of obtaining a quality residency, and the fact that LECOM has a condensed curriculum concerns me. Can you comment on this?
3) Do you feel that because everything is so condensed you graduate knowing less than grads of 4-year programs? Some students say that all of your time is spent cramming for the next exam, and then you forget all of what you crammed the next day when you start cramming for the next one. I do not want to find I graduate knowing relatively little compared to my competitors in the job market.
4) Does life in Erie ever get you down, or do you like it there?
5) What fields of pharmacy do most recent grads go into? For some reason I am assuming that most LECOM grads go into retail. Does pretty much everybody have a job lined up after graduation?

Thanks

Hey guys, I was accepted today as well : ) Were u both at the Nov 10 interview? Im very excited, and Ive heard its a great well established program, but Im concerned about the IT job market out there for my husband. Seems pretty bleek at this point, and Im pretty disappointed.

I was at the Nov 10 interview. I think anywhere you go the job market will be a concern. Congrats on your acceptance.

Yea, the economy is not very hot anywhere you go; just seems worse in Erie compared to that of a major city where there are more opportunities. Nevertheless, we will keep on looking.

Congrats to you as well...is Lecom erie where you plan on going?

Thats great! Yes, I want to attend LECOM-Erie and I sent in my deposit, but if it doesnt work out then I will be attending NEOUCOP. Either way, I am very happy that I will be attending pharmacy school, but would prefer an accelerated program. I was very impressed with NEOUCOP and its only 30 min from home, which is great! Guess we'll just have to wait n see.

So are you starting to check out housing?

A little, i've started to browse the internet for some rental homes, the housing is fairly inexpensive. Hopefully I can find one close to school. How about you?
