completely awesome!
the lady just blew my away...it sounds like there are two instruments. was that song originally composed for two guitars, or guitar and mandolin?

no, i don't know how to tremolo finger pick.my husband can a little, but no where near as fast. i can do it with a flat pick...the trick to that is, in my estimation, an extra heavy pick [ i currently use a 2 mm] and i "wobble" my whole wrist...my hands are too small to make itty bitty rotations while i trem-pick. we are both completely discouraged after watching that video.

good luck, Z...let me know how it goes.

um....amiloride....just to keep the post drug-related.

mmm...that song was written over 100 years ago by Francisco Terrega...a Spaniard. Recuerdos de la Alhambra is one of the biggest frustration for many classical guitarists. And no, it wasn't meant for 2 guitars. I can actually play the song without the tremolo...or the first 30 seconds or so with the tremolo..but my fingers give out. it's a constant p a m i movement.

I toyed with this piece about 7 years ago...and a couple of days ago, I felt the need for a closure... I need to completely learn it.

An no... no picks man. :meanie:

hmm, no picks? then you would be better served by mr tussionex, though he has momentarily quit after seeing that amazing woman.
he's been finger picking for about 5 years, and playing regular guitar for about 20. i've played for about 17.
tonight i decided to learn "canon rock" of you tube fame...just to annoy my guitar teacher.

LMAO!!! I don't think that piece is that difficult as far as the music itself. It's the Tremolo...that discourages...

does guitar hero count?

canon rock is not hard...nailed the riffs i wanted in about an hour.
also working on "foggy mountain breakdown"...nothing like trying to pick my strat to sound like a banjo!

i heard people that play guitar actually have a hard time with guitar hero...i'm dying to try it...i'll bet i suck!

Tremelo isn't hard man, just like anything it's practice practice practice.

Eventually you build up muscles in your arm/wrist... start playing some metal if you want to get crazy endurace for downpicking or tremolo.

Stuff like whiplash, one, sanitarium and battery by metallica will get you there in no time.

I played a lot of metal in my younger days.....lived to play Randy Rhodes riffs... fast left fingers and quick picking were much easier than classical tremolo required in Alhambra... it's kicking my butt.

z, you gotta get one of those dean razorbacks with the flames on it!

it plays itself...

what's your "main ax", really?

I really want to learn how to play guitar! Can anyone give some serious advice and information? For example, what kind of guitar I need to buy as a beginner and any website that give lessons on how to play guitar!

I can give you serious, albeit rushed advice. Get an acoustic to start out with. A cheap one.

Most people quit within the first 6 months due to frustration as to not being able to mimic a solo or play like dimebag darrell. Pace yourself.

If after this time you're still commited, maintaing practice regimes of 2-5hrs /week +, look into an electric guitar. The transition will be smooth from acoustic -> electric.

Accept that guitar is like a sport, if you don't practice it you lose it.

Learn open chords, strumming patterns and basic picking techniques. Do not venture into scales unless you're already familiar, it'll be too much at once. Learn how to read tabs. Start with very simple songs, don't expect to be able to play along within the first month... You need to work on smoothly switching between chords and picking technique. Good luck!

I have a Manuel Rodriguez from Spain. Mahagony top with Rosewood side and back. It's a classical guitar. Somewhere in the garage is a Yamaha 12 string guitar I used to woo girls with when I was in HS.

I sold my 72 Gibson LesPaul Custom when I went off to college. I regret that dearly.

I would like a Jumbo body acoustic...either Taylor or Guild.

Requiem,

What do you think about Paul Reed Smith SE? They're much cheaper since made in Korea.... I don't want to pay $3,000 for a US model. I would rather pay$600 for an SE...with a decent size Marshall amp.

i agree with requiem. start slow and easy...make yourself comfortable with the instrument and try to focus on playing smoothly, moving from one chord to the next.
get a cheap acoustic guitar....and....most of all, try lighter guage strings than most acoustics come with. beginner models tend to be high and heavy. have a good music shop adjust the action and set you up with moderately light strings. lots of players get frustrated b/c their fingers start to hurt.
if you're going to use light strings, get and good tuner as they wont stay in tune as well as those big monster strings.

i play ultralights on everything.

Z, i have been looking at the PRS SE....i played on a few months ago as well as a $2400 singelcut. i liked the SE much better...responsive, light, easy to play. when i have some spare cash i might pick one up.

mr tuss plays classical, well, fingerstyle on a cheap ibanez that sounds like a dream. i bought him a les paul standard as a wedding present. [i'd regret parting with that custom, too!🙁]
i'm playing a john mayer artist series strat...i like mr mayer well enough, it was the sound of the instrument that really sold me...not that endorsement!
my acoustic is a martin D1 that i've had since 9th grade...love it!

Maybe you and I can get a package deal!!! I thought I saw them from $499 to $699!

Martin is nice!!! Haven't you worn out the frets?

we should ! musicians' friend.com is da bomb....seriously, they have great deals....

didn't you post a pic of like a $2500 taylor? i like the thin body acoustic/electric taylors...

my martin's frets are still great...i slacked off on my playing for a while when in pharmacy school....damn learning!

Tussi,

Attached is the sheet music for Recuerdos....instead of you and your hubby quitting guitar...maybe he can start practicing...

So I can play the first 4 lines before my fingers give out and my tremolo starts to hit other strings... LOL

Z....thanks much!
it looks like a real b****!

yikes!

we'll give it a try...should be fun!

happy picking,
tuss

I feel fairly comfortable with the page 1. Requiem is right...with practice, Tremolo is getting bearable.

heh... it's so easy...a caveman..I mean a little girl can do it...

I recently bought an Ibanez acoustic guitar...don't really have any musical talent to speak of but always wanted to learn.
I also purchased this:

only on lesson two, but it makes sense so far.
I took lessons about 6-8 months ago, but it was when I was working overnights, so I didn't get alot of practice done and all progress was lost.

Wow! this woman is really great!👍

Yeah guitar hero takes some practice. The piano players I know pick it up a lot faster since it's more of a percussive instrument like the game.
