Hey guys,

So I just submitted my application to these schools:

1. ASDOH
2. Temple
3. Louisville
4. Creighton
5. Tufts
6. Case Western
7. Indiana
8. Tennessee

In addition to the three dental schools in texas, as I am a resident. This is my second time applying (applied two years ago 2010 cycle) and I need to give it "all i've got."

I applied to about 11-12 schools last time with a 19AA score, and a 3.3GPA, which I realized to be fairly low, but I didn't receive any interviews or anything, even with quite a bit of ECs. I am re-taking my DATs on July 7th, and have been studying 8 or so hrs a day using the following materials:

1. Chads videos for CHEM/OCHEM - of which I have about half the ochem vids left to go thru
2. CLIFFS + KBB - for bio, again I think I have about 5-6 days left of material to get thru,

and then i purchased DAT DESTROYER for practice questions and plan on getting TOPSCORE for practice tests.

I should get through all the material within the next 1.5 wks leaving 2.5-3 wks for just practicing materials.

I have been using random online resources and such for QR and PAT, but am not sure if I want to spend 200$ or whatever on the CRACK THE - series...

Since graduating undergrad (applying last time), I have managed to hold a research assistant position for a semester (and got co-authored), and i'm currently in a masters program ( 12 hrs of 4.0 grad science classes under my belt)...

I'm just looking for any advice on whether to add any schools to the list (with my stats), any materials to add to my current list of study materials, or any advice in general from the SDN community!

Thanks for everything yall, and i really really really hope :xf: I get into dental school this time around because I won't be able to take rejection again...🙁

wow im sorry for formatting, i didnt realize hitting enter this many times would space it out like that :/

anyway I don't want to make it seem like im trolling for responses, i just really want to hear honest feedback from the SDN community on my situation and what else I can do from now until I take my DAT and/or hopefully get accepted into dental school...

thanks again!

we can't suggest anything until your new DAT score is available.

as far as DAT materials go, IMO, Crack DAT PAT and MATH destroyer book are a must if you have lacking in these areas. If ur naturally scoring 20+ on topscore QR and PAT, then you prolly won't need either resource.

By the way, Math Destroyer is not DAT destroyer (they are different books).

all the best

Just wondering, but why did you apply to Tennessee? If you applied because of the small amount reported annually in the ADEA book, you should know that they are probably one of the least OOS friendly schools.

@nlbaker7

Thanks for your breakdown, it seems that for the most part, people usually recommend the same study materials, so i just wanted to make sure I was on par with mine, great scores btw!! Where will you be going to d-school, if you dont mind me asking...

@Dentalworks,

I wasnt planning on getting CDP, but I guess in the grand scheme of things, spending a couple 100$ here and there isn't really all that much huh??

I have math destroyer and plan on spending the next couple wks going thru that and DAT destroyer...

@UFRalo

I know TENN only accepts a handful of students (smaller then alot of schools) but their OOS apply VS Accept rate was pretty high from my research. And if I don't get into a school here in texas, I definitely want to be somewhere in the midwest!!

@doc smile

LOL, obviously i was looking for .bmps! haha, i must have left out the "u" in my haste....sorry!

you seem to be quite regular on the forum boards, and respected by the SDN community so what do you think of my situation?

I think you are making the right choice by retaking the DAT. I hope you have taken a practice test or two to gauge where you are at. Also, I would recommend spending 20$ on Crack the PAT. Have you done a GPA recalculation to see what it is now after factoring in your four-oh from the masters?

I am not familiar with the texas schools but dont they prefer texas residents? Those are your best shot. Good luck at Indiana! I'll be rooting for you

I would suggest adding a few more schools to your list if you want to give it your best shot this time around. However, like a few others mentioned, it is all contingent on your DAT score. If you score a 20+, you will be in great shape.

Did you mean Crack the DAT PAT? and 20$?! I believe the software is 100$+, if im not mistaken...unless we are talking about different things...😕

which schools would you recommend? I've seen a few whose OOS stats are pretty favorable (besides NYU + BU, i really don't want to end up in the northeast 🙁

I'd consider adding these:

1) Oklahoma
2) Midwestern-AZ
3) Midwestern-IL
4) UNLV
5) Western
6) USN
7) OHSU
8) Marquette

Those schools are either private or OOS friendly. It can only increase your chances.

I know this has been discussed beforehand, but if I were to apply to these schools in addition to those i've already applied to, and since I've already signed up for the DAT (and designated schools to send scores too...), would I need to send the scores (from ADEA) to those additional schools? I thought that you only need to supply your DENTPIN to AADSAS and thats the "official" scores that all the schools at...
