hi everyone new to the forum and i am applying this cycle opening up june 4 and i wanted to know if i am a good applicant/in a good standing since i am the first dentist in my family (the rest are pharmacists or medical doctors) so i am figuring things out on my own.
as of right now i have a 3.82 gpa, when i calculated my gpa with the class i retook and my college credit i got from highschool through ADEA this is what i got and my current stats:
University gpa: 3.82
overall ADEA: 3.4-3.5
science ADEA: 3.4
DAT: 380 (retaking June 17 but will be submitting my application nonetheless June 4 and will update my DAT score when it is in)
over 650 hours of dental shadowing experience
over 500-600 hours of organization hours and volunteering hours. (founded and cofounded orgs as well as outside community service i took part in i.e soccer coaching youth, tutoring, etc.)
So far i have 10 schools i am applying to but am planning to input more to be on the safe side. I know my gpa is disappointing and there is zero excuses but winter 2021 i lost a family member so i had to retake physics 2 and it was too late to drop but retook it and did get an A+ after that attempt and graduated honors with high distinction and maintained a 4.0 in the remaining semesters. Not to mention, one of my science letter of rec. is from physics.
I take criticism well and will take any advice i can get! i am putting in a lot of money into this career path and having expert admissions tutor to go over my application and faculty i be friended over the years. thanks!
