Hey Fellow Dental Students and Residents
I am quite interested in doing Ortho Residency after I graduate form Dental School. I would really appreciate if someone could give me some solid advice regarding how I can improve my chances of that while I am finishing my DMD degree. I will be starting the 2 year Advanced Standing DMD program at a University this year. If possible, can someone throw some light on as to what all I should be doing these 2 yrs so as to improve my chances of getting into a residency.
After reading the previous posts I think that maintaining a good GPA, Class Rank, Research Experience, NDB Part 1 Scores are a must ( I have 92 in Part 1 but I have heard some stories that below 95 in Part 1 for Ortho is an absolute No-No 😱, so should I prepare to write my Part 1 exam again).
I was also wondering if regular DDS/DMD students are given preference over Advanced Standing Graduates for Ortho residencies ( Like in OMFS residencies) .
Also is it absolutely necessary to do some sort of internship (GPR/AEGD) or to have some private practice experience before any consideration is given to an applicant or do fresh DMD graduates have a fair shot at getting into residency. I do understand that having any kind of Experience/GPR/AEGD certainly improves the chances but I would just like to know how big a chance I would be taking if I apply immediately after finishing DMD.
If theres anything that I am missing kindly add to it.
If my question are old and repetitive I am sorry and I would also like thank everyone who took time out to reply to my request
