I looked at my MCAT yesterday. 9PS 9BS 11VS M-WS
29M overall😕
Much lower than I wanted (or expected, I was getting 34 on practice).

I have a 4.0 GPA with 5+ years of research, 2abstract publications, three presentations (one at an international conference) and a national scholarship. I have strong extracurriculars and good letters of reference.....

Is there any hope for me to get into a MSTP!

I am already registered for a retake in August. I was taking 21+ credits plus working on an abstract during my April MCAT, so I didn't study as much as I thought I could.
I don't want to wait to apply, because I would like to get an early start on applications. Should I proceed with my AMACS?

I NEED SOME ADVICE!

🙁

I will say go for it. U never know . . . don't screw up things because you are 1 point away from the so-called break point called number 30. I will say take the shot. With much effort on the application forms as well as prayers, you can get in somewhere.

hi bandgeek, your situation sounds kinda familiar. i was there last year w/ stellar grades, ****ty mcats, 2 pubs, leadersihp..blah blah.

result?

auto-rejection before interview from every top to which i applied school except Baylor, UT Southwester, and UCSD.

Bright side was that i totally fell in love with UT Southwestern, got accepted and decided to do the time in Dallas instead of taking a year off and retaking the mcat (since i took it for the first time the august i applied).

But you are in a far better position though: you can retake the mcat w/o taking a year off. So, all you have to do is ace it! It's all about concentration and not letting your neighbor throw a party the night before 😉

Good luck!

here's a question for you...since the original poster has, in my opinion, an AMAZING profile for mstp...what kind of gpa do you think is cut off for ANY program. i did a pretty rough program for undergraduate as well as for graduate work although my mcat is pretty decent, and i'd rather know what my standing would be in choosing which school to apply to as i'm working on a limited budget...

thanks!

there are some schools that are not too tough and give out 4.0 GPAs easily, and then there are others that are filled with competitive students and honest with their grading. It's a combination of school, major, and GPA, not one number alone.

thanks...i guess that kind of makes me feel better... 🙂
