Hello,
I saw that these stats were posted for signal to IV conversion (https://www.aamc.org/media/87551/download?attachment). These basically indicate that signalling is very important for getting an IV. As someone who will be applying to residency not too far down the road, I was wondering what PDs think of the importance of signals for PSTPs or research track residencies? There aren’t as many spots available so I was planning on applying quite broadly, though I do hope to have a reasonable CV.

Thanks so much!

Consider attending the tri-society meeting in Chicago (APSA, AAP, ASCI), and ask those questions to the PSTP directors attending the Residency Fair... If you attend, it is likely that you will get as many slightly different answers as people you speak with. There is no real agreement as of yet. It also depends on the residency type that you apply to. Each type of clinical specialty has a different vision for their research-intensive residency track, and the few PDs for those tracks within that specialty haven't agreed upon what to do with signaling, which is something regular residency PDs brought on. Only some of the specialties with dozens of research-intensive tracks, such as IM, have developed an organization (Alliance for Academic IM), which puts together a program just before the Residency Fair at the tri-society meeting..
