Does anyone have any ideas for an "Intro to Quantitative Analysis" research project? It's the lab for Chem II at my school, and the honor students have to do research.

Also, can I use this on my app as research experience? 😳

Thanks guys!

Try browsing through the most recent editions of the ACS journal for some ideas.

Yes

Yes

I don't know the specifics of the OP's class but I think this is something to put on the primary if they have no other research.

Sounds fun! If you were to put some ideas out here, we could help you flesh them out.

What equipment do you have available and what are the professors you can work with interested in? Do you have any interest in any particular subjects?

Looking at journals may help, but bear in mind that those articles are based on the efforts of full-time postdocs and grads that put in a lot of time. Take into account a reasonable time investment you can devote to this project or find a grad student and professor that need an assistant for part of a project. If you do something productive, you could end up with a co-authorship on a publication as well. Ask a simple question and devise a way to investigate it, while scrutinizing your methods before going through with the work.

If you wanna read "research" papers, a better one for your situation is to search through the ACS pub "Journal of Chemical Education". http://pubs.acs.org/journal/jceda8

Otherwise, it is likely you'll get very lost reading random topics without the background in a review paper or two. Alternatively, you may go down the rabbit hole and read too many review papers.
