Hi all,

I am a PGY-2 contemplaining applying to a PGY-2 position. I went through couple PGY-2 application's requirements and some do mention letter of PD or some don't.
My program don't know that I am planning to applying elsewhere and I WANT it to stay that way. I have heard horror stories about been fired when the program find out that you are applying to other programs.

My question is: How to know/predict if the the program you are applying to will contact your current program or not? Is this possible?

First, a clarification is in order: are you a rising PGY3 contemplating transferring or a rising PGY2 (because the academic year isn't over yet so you're either an intern about to be a PGY2 or a PGY2 about to be a PGY3)?

No program in any specialty will take a transferring resident without - at the bare minimum - a letter from the current PD stating that the resident has met the minimum requirements for advancement in their training program.

If you want to leave your program so badly, your PD (if s/he is paying any attention) probably already at least suspects that you're unhappy. So you basically have two options.
1. Suck it up and just finish your program. If you're a rising PGY3 in a 3 year residency, this is the no brainer solution to your problem. If you're really an intern about to finish up and become a PGY2 in a specialty with 4+ years of training, this may not be a great option.
2. Suck it up and talk to your PD. If s/he finds out you want to leave from you, it's going to be far less painful for you than if s/he finds out from some other PD calling to find out why you want to leave that program. You could try approaching a friendly asst. PD or faculty member first to feel out the situation, but ultimately your PD is going to find out.

I am a PGY2 going to PGY3 in a 3 year residency program.

I am on pin and needles ( don't have a 3 rd year contract renewed/pending multiple requirements). It is getting worse everyday. I would like to stay but think that my chances are slim giving the atmosphere.
