Anyone has opinions about this specialty? In particular, workload, philosophy (for choosing it), salary, typical places when look for jobs, and career advancement....

Thanks

Great specialty. Very much a surgical specialty with some impressive surgeries. Workload is very similar to a surgeon with early mornings and long hours. Residency is 4 years of OB/GYN then 2-3 yr gyn onc fellowship.

Salary is usually enormous (250K-600K/year). Usually you have to practice in a large metropolitan area and often academics due to the research nature of the job.

Why to choose it? Like surgery, like women's health, like a constantly changing specialty (more so than some), enjoy OB/GYN or at least like it enough to make it through the residency.

Not for me exactly but definitely my favorite part of OB/GYN. Ovarian CA sucks.
