hello everyone; i am a dentist from Egypt, I was a GP for 2 years then applied for OS residency for 3 years during which I had a master in oral surgery . I am interested in being a resident in USA i took NDBE part I (81) and I am going to take part II next month. can any one guide me what is the next step and what is the suitable visa type and when is the perfect time for it( before or after admission to a residency program)? and after finishing it can I practice dentistry in USA and can I apply for the programs before taking part II?😕

what is your suggestion ? could u tell me which program to apply with my requirements?

could u explain more please?
😳

check the private msg I sent you Shaymaa

I got accepted into an AEGD program with 81 in NBDE1 and another person with over 90 in NBDE1 and more experience...etc was not accepted

its not just about board score it is how good your cv looks and how professional you are during the interview and ofcourse your fate😉

you need 1st to decide if you want to specialize or apply to general dentistry and check their requirements online through ada.org or pass and apply

good luck

there are about 9-11 AEGD and 2 GPR programs that accept international students without dds/dmd. Also there are several speciality programs that accept international

Simply check AEGD programs in the search engine in pass website, you will either find that they require that applicants should be graduated from an ADA accredited dental school, or you will find that they may consider applicants from non accredited dental schools..... you can apply at those

you can practice in the U.S after at least 2 yrs of an ADA accredited postgraduate program. There are about 10 states that will allow you to work without dds but you would need to finish at least 2 yrs of postgraduate studies 1st. Those 2 yrs can be either 2 yrs of AEGD or GPR where you would be a General dentist. Or you can specialize and therefore you can work as a specialist. ADA.org has a pdf that mentions the states that you can work in without holding a dds you should search for it .

Hi,
I am also an international dentist from Egypt.
I have a question about the PASS application. Where do you get the institution and professional evaluations? Should I send the evaluation forms to my professors in my University back home?

Thanks.

the institutions you need are WES.org and ECE.org
they will evaluate your degree and will present the equivalent in GPA
good luck

there is no list of schools that accept foreign trained dentists. You need to check each program one by one

here is the list of all the aegd programs:
http://web.adea.org/webapps/EPS/Sear...1=Start+Search

and here is what you should look for:

for example: U connecticut aegd some of their requirements to apply

Requirements to apply to program:

May be considered for admission if graduated from non-ADA accredited (international) dental school.

also here's another example for other universities:

Requirements before enrollment in program:

Must have earned a D.M.D./D.D.S. degree, or equivalent.

here the equivalent degree is the BDS you will find these phrases in all programs that accept international in all specialities, aegd and gpr.

so go through each program you are interested in and make your own list 🙂

Good luck

Generally all programs are competitive whether advanced standing, aegd, speciality...etc

i dont know how hard it is to get into these programs really, experience in the US is preferred ofcourse such as perceptorship or something. I have heard of people getting straight out of dental school into a very competitive program such as endodontics without having any work experience or even high gpa and even without doing nbde part 1! and I have seen people with nbde score over 90, alot of experience and CE courses and didnt get accepted. There is no rule. Just apply and you will get what you deserve

just apply to as many programs as you can and the best program is the one that you will get accepted in😀 if you are lucky and get accepted in 2 or more programs then you need to decide according from what you saw and were told from their residents during your orientation and interview

😎ok....so i was going through the schools that accept ftd's and simultaneously checked the website for howard university and the website does not mention that they accept international dentists but the adea site says so.....whom should i believe?????

So in some schools they require part1 to apply and before enrollment they ask for part2 ..what does that mean???😎

You have to call the programs to make sure that they do accept international dentists. Its a lot of work. Its good if you talk to them otherwise ur wasting money.Apply early .

One doubt i was stuck on is that some schools though accept international applicants, but require the applicant to be eligible for state dental license.
This is a conflicting requirement so how does it work?
