I have an interview with Uof Pitt coming up. Any advice? I'm extremely nervous!
Who's already interviewed with them?
Thanks

Don't be nervous! It was a laid back day and very informative although it was rather boring. Absolutely nothing to be nervous about!! The interview itself only last about 20 minutes. You'll be fine.

I agree that Pitt was very laid back. Compared to some other schools, you are "lectured" to for a while, but it is with the intention to know what the school is all about and introduce you to the admin. They want to make sure their school is a fit for you. It can be boring if it's your 4th+ inteview (same ol info) but I thought it gave us a good glimpse of the student-staff culture Pitt has (a positive for the school in my opinion). They love their sports and I thought they came off as extremely approachable and welcoming.

Next, you go meet with students and have a very tastey brunch (eat up or else you'll get hungry) and than take a tour of school. After that you have your interview and than a student panel wrap up. The actual interview is very informal. I was asked one question about why dentistry and than the rest of the interview was about sign language (my "foreign" language) and deaf culture in the PNW.

I was left with the impression that if you get an interview, than they like you a lot. My advice is just be yourself and have fun. Also, during the brunch, nut up and sit with some current students and pick their brain. I thought there were a few people who were too nervous to be sociable. I enjoyed the atmosphere at Pitt a lot and will attend if I dont get into my state school, UW. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Those that were interviewed, did you receive acceptance? Thanks for the advice. I feel better somewhat.

.I was interviewed on January 9 and haven’t heard anything yet. Also there were at least 50 people interviewing the day I interviewed and the person who interviews you doesn’t know your grades and I don’t think anyone had any specific questions from there applications asked so I don’t think the interview counts a lot. Hope that helps, but its a nice school and the city is really up scale..

jorUW - U a CODA? I sure am... 😀

i have an interview with UPitt too on feb 19th. Is that when you are interviewing?

Yeah, I'm interviewing on the 19th. I'll see ya there! Hey rollino5, what is your stats if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks
Mine is 20/20/20

awesome, I'm also scheduled for the 19th. Who is staying where? I'm still deciding on either the Holiday Inn, or Hampton Inn both within walking distance from Pitt.

You should go to Holiday Inn...they will arrange for a shuttle to drop you off at UPitt in the morning and come pick you up after.

stay at the wyndam garden on forbes ave, they give you a rate of 87.00 a night if u let them know you are interviewing at the dental school, its also about a 3-5 min walk up hill to the dental school, very nice...

did you receive and email or mail invite for feb 19th? I talked to Rose Mangold on Monday to check my status and she told me that I am on the list to be interviewed for Feb 19th and she said to reply to the her email to confirm the invite. However, i haven't received that email yet....and im interviewing at UPENN on that friday Feb 16th and already changed my ticket to fly to PITT for the interview on Monday, Feb 19th? I've tried calling her and left a message but she hasn't picked up or returned my calls.

uh, what is a "CODA?" I suppose if I have to ask than than the answer is no:laugh:

edit: after reading your profile I think I figured it out. If i'm correct than no, i'm not, but learning ASL and about Deaf culture has been very rewarding.

I received my invite via e-mail, there were two actually. the first one was the invitation and the second was a listing of all the hotels and transportation info. Are you sure they have your current email on file? I say just email Mrs. Mangold, she usually responds in 2 or 3 days to figure things out. good luck!

My impression was that only the 19th was available and that if you replied, then assume that date.
I've reserved at Holiday Inn, if anyone else did also, then maybe we can meet up and head to the interview together?

when I received the email it gave me 3 dates, two in january and one on february 26th. I booked my flight for the 25th, then got the email saying they switched the date to feb 19th which costed me an extra $100 for my flight rescheduling (yes, shoulda bought insuarance, just thought these interview dates were set in stone!).. yes we should meet up! I hear though that dent interviewees usually gather in the lobby right before the shuttle leaves at 7:30.
