Some of you may know that this is my second year applying and I'm finding that its definitely not any easier the second time around. Anyone else on here applying in round numero dos? Numero tres? What have you found as far as differences in your interviews or the process in general? And most importantly, are you having any luck?

Billiken,
Yeah I agree it isn't any easier the second time around. I applied late last year, so I learned after quick rejections to apply earlier. I sent my AADSAS in July and the schools got my app in August. I did secondaries the end of August, and now I'm just waiting for my name to be called! The schools I've applied to haven't started interviewing yet (from my understanding)...but I'm just keeping the faith that dentistry is for me...at least one day!

Si senor es me numero dos time here! I think it is more stressfull and definetly not eaiser. I got in everything early like last year. ONLY this year I was smart and applied to more than one school.

Last year interviewed and was waitlisted and just got denial letter in Sep/04 for the 04 class.

I wish all of you the best of luck.

Count me in...this is my second time around. I am pretty confident about my academic background but my DAT score is not very good....currently I am enrolled in an MS program at a local university in Chicago. While taking classes, I have been studying for the DAT (again). I know some of the people that get into dental school are extremely prepared (ie upper level sciences) and I guess I am going to be one of those people, so that makes me confident I can succeed, once invited. The problem is a) my DAT and b) sometimes I feel like it just isnt going to happen. In any case, this round I also submitted my application much, much earlier than before and have yet to hear anything (besides secondary applications). Good luck to everyone in this thread.

Billiken, I pmed you before...no response.

A guy in my class applied 6 times before finally getting accepted.I'm not saying it will take you guys that many tries but don't give up b/c there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I forgot to mention that he is #2 in the class right now (I think he took it personally). Keep your heads up guys. Your time will come.

6 times?!?!? Holy hell... Well good for him. I think motivation has to play a big part in success in any situation, and dental school I'm sure is no different. This guy couldn't get in 5 years in a row and now he'll have his choice of careers in dentistry... Thats really good to hear!

^^ 6 times! 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱

God, what did he have a PHD before they let him in? That is 6 year's of trying....... I think I would have switched gear's after 6 years. That is a lot of ones life to waste.

LOL. You got a look at it like, 6 years of waste (to you) = the rest of his life on what he wants to do, instead of 6 years/get a crappy job.....and waste the rest of his life.

hey, I am not knocking the guy! Far from it. But for me personally, with this being my second time. If I don't get in somewhere this year I would try one more time maybe (after crying my eyes out because my stat's are above every school I have applied to's average), but then I would start thinking that I don't have what these schools are looking for and broaden my horizons. Maybe this guy is like young when he started his first application vs me who is already 29 and has a family and has to think about more for them and myself than 6 year's of application cycle's and stress. I seriously would have to focus on something esle for 6 year's or go crazy. Very few people have what it takes to apply past a third time and be denied let alone 5 times of denial.

Besides, if the guy was happy applying for 6 six years in a row. More power to him! I admire determination. I wouldn't apply for 6 six years. Just my opinion, which last time I checked that is what this forum was for.

Numero tres?

yeah, thats me!!! holy cow... had anyone told me this 3 years ago when i was first applying, i would have killed them. But it hasn't been that bad. The way to get in is to find your weak spots and improve them. My weak spots were my GPA, DAT, and going to a state school known as "Zoo Mass" (UMass Amherst). So, now i am getting my masters in Biology at Washington University in St. Louis (yes, i saw John kerry last night in person). I have also re-taken the DAT and improved a bit. My hope is the name of the school and the masters will get me in. They cant turn down "Harvard of the Midwest".

and if it fails again.. i might either re-apply ONLY once more or just apply to chiropractic schools. thats a guaranteed acceptance and the lifestyle isnt too different from those of dentists. Hope i wont have to go that rout though.

Good luck to everyone.

I'm not sure how old he is but I'm guessing late 20's. He is also married and has 2 kids. I don't know exactly what he was doing in those six years or what drove him to try so hard but I'll try to find out one of these days (in a not so rude way 🙂 )

I didn't mean to be rude. Sorry if you took it that way. I am astonished. And that is cool he finally got it. Good for him. AS I said already like 3 times.

bump.

I never thought you were trying to be rude. You were wondering about this guys backround so I stated what I knew. Yes he is in a similar situation as you (late 20's, wife, kids), yet for some reason decided to test the system. Wasn't trying to defend him or attack you. Sorry if it came off like that.

Hey, No problem. Ask him if he would be interested in sharing his story. I think it is great when some one with lots of life and dreams succeed. Maybe he would do us the honor of his story.

🙂

For the guy who said that the person that applied 6x and got in and is now 2nd in the class: how do you know he is second? I go to Temple and we are not privy to others info. And if he said he was second, he might be blowing a lot of smoke if you know what I mean. I trust none of these liars at Temple, no offense. Anywho, if you are reapplying over and over again I hope you are strengthening your application each time or you are wasting your time and money 👍 . You can strengthen your application in many ways, the biggest ways are to take more classes and ace them, retake the DAT and improve your score, and do research. If you can't get in because you just can't get the scores and grades, do us all a favor and stop applying. It embarasses me that 10 people in my class alone dropped out before the 3rd year, most of them because they couldn't keep up. Accept it if you are one of these people or you will make the most expensive mistake of your life. Go for chiropractic or pharmacy, I hear that both aren't that bad and make good money.
