I feel young and want some job that requires some creativity and analytical skills.

Pharmaceutical companies hire pharmacists for offic jobs but I seriously doubt the environment will be comparable to google lol. Although, I've heard that google has started cutting back pretty drastically on all the recreational crap for employees.

nope never heard of a pharmacist sitting in an office working 9-5.

All the pharmacist that I have encounter work long and hard. Some pharmacist work weekends, holidays, nightshifts, and STAND ALL DAY while doing the pharmacist thing. If this sounds unappealing, then I suggest switching to another profession because this is what 90% of pharmacist do.

Yea in PBM they have a "desk job" but they are also responsible for other functions, so I don't think they are sitting 9-5 and surfing the web when no one is looking =)

how about working for companies like Mckesson? I think they have 9 -5 office jobs, although very few in number.

there a pharmacist i've heard of working for an investment banking firm analyzing company pipelines for investors...he worked R&D and some other area before finding this job.

someone else trains drug reps and works on marketing campaigns

last time i had a desk job i gained 10-15 pounds =( the day i started cvs of all places....i immediately lost 10lbs and had more stamina, haha.

Yep, there are such jobs, I have one like that. 😀 But they are hard to come by, and you really have to prove yourself in some other setting first...

care to elaborate? I would LOVE to have a desk job or a job in sales. Anything but retail, ANYTHING!

I actually just finished one of my elective rotations at Humana/RightSource and encountered many different pharmacists (all who had different roles) with 9-5 (actually 7-3) desk jobs. Their jobs ranged from MTM, drug info questions, PA determination, and rx screening just to name a few. I loved it so much that I'm putting in a request with our rotation coordinator to try to get a second rotation with them!

I wanna go into industry but it looks like it is hard to get in & work your way up.

haha funny because if you have a job in sales, the last place you're going to be is behind a desk (unless you're cold calling all day).

You're hot

hence her using the word or

Yeah, I am not very picky...I will take a desk job OR a job in sales OR a job in mail order. I don't have a preference btw those three and don't care which one I get. I just need one of the above!

Are you getting an MBA/PharmD degree? Not sure, but might be a good idea to do if you want a job in industry. Also keep the GPA as high as possible...gonna be fighting with a million people to get a fellowship I am sure.

Pharmacy organizations.

Which one is the best? Pzfier? Mckesson? Cardinal? any recommendations???????

I wanted to be a sales rep for Pzfier but they needed me to relocate to philly in order to get the job. 🙁

yeah didn't catch that, it was 2am....i figured the topic was about desk jobs and that shc was under the impression that a sales job = at a desk.

yeah stay away from philly, all my sales friends are in NY/NJ, might be a hot area for you

Its all good. If you have any info on desk jobs or sales jobs please let me know. I am a little hesitant on getting an MBA at the same time b/c I don't know if I can handle all that during P2/P3 years...R you going to get your MBA too?

And a sales job at NYC would be a DREAM COME TRUE!. 😍

How's school going for u? P2 or p3?

P-2.... go for a fellowship after you graduate, I've got MSL friends at Novartis and GSK. Hung out with a buddy at Google NY and those offices are sweeeeet, too bad they don't hire pharmacists (though I could see a niche with pharmacy/e-records/IT if they pursue that further).

I'll probably get an MBA eventually, anyone know if an MHA would be a good fit too? I've only run into PharmD/MBA's.

Your GPA has to be very high to get a fellowship right? I would imagine b/c its very competitive.

Is an MBA really required for an MSL position? I thought you needed to do something in medical writing/communications for that kind of position.

not necessarily, IMO the MBA doesn't come into play until you start moving up. Everyone starts the same straight out of school.

maybe if you get into an MBA program right after you graduate from pharm school will give you a boost, or at least a start.
