any one heard from UCSF

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i got accepted🙂

Congratulations Reds on your acceptance. We are all happy for you. Could you share some Info about your self and the process at UCSF. Like your credentials (NBDE, TOEFL, GPA.,etc) and the whole process for you at UCSF (Like the written test, Practical test and the Interview., etc). This will help us all who are applying next year. Any other info you think will help us guys applying next year will be great.

Again Congrats and have fun on your admission.(Did you also get accepted to other places?)

My spouse got into UCSF.
NDBE 1 - 88
TOEFL - 277
GPA - 3.94

What helped her was the practice session, as UCSF opens up the lab the day before the practical exam to use their facilities but you must have your own hand pieces and instruments to practice on. Some interviewees didnt have their hand pieces ( but wished they did, because the opportunity was there to practice)

A lot of people seem to have overlooked UCSF.
Only 140 applications probably because their deadline is early.
Their school is good, so is the city. NIH funding for the dental school is among the top in the country. Didnt hear from anyone who did not like UCSF.

The best part is that they dont keep you waiting. Interview was over a 3 day period - written exam, practical exam and interview and the results are announced in about a month.

Hope this helps.

Good luck to all.

Thanx for the comment! Nice to hear about a happy ending. Now, how much is UCSF demanding for her two year advanced standing program? Will she be applying for a private loan?

I was under the impression most Californian state dental schools only accepted (for advanced standing) those with permanent residency in the US. Am I correct in saying so?

Good luck and thanks in advance for replying back.

Cheers,

Hi,
I got accepted in UCSF and UOP.
But now am confused where to go ????
Can anyone help

Thanks

Hi both,
Congrats on your admission. Thanks Helper for your details.

Miniam, Can you share with us your details like the NBDE score, TOEFL, GPA , your experience with the UCSF tests and Interview and any other detail that could help us future applicants.

Thanks in advance.

UCSF is generally considered a good school. If I had to choose between U of Pacific and UCSF, its a no brainer, UCSF wins hands down. They are among the top schools based on NIH funding, clinical productivity, number of patients per year (over 100, 000 dental patients) and general reputation.

The fees for the 2 year program is appx. $150,000 which is inclusive of housing and living expenses. They also let you keep the instrument kit for life. Cost of living in the San Francisco area is much lower than it was a few years ago. Rents for decent apartments go from 500 to 1500 per month typically inclusive of utilities. My spouse intends to take a private loan. You need a cosigner ( citizen of US or permanent resident) if the loan applicant is not a permanent resident or citizen.

UCSF does not consider "green card" status when candidates apply. Your merits will get you in. Your visa status will not give you preferential treatment.

Generally speaking, UCSF's admissions staff and students seemed quite friendly and I have yet to hear of anyone who dislikes UCSF.

Good luck to all. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Good to hear that your spouse has been accepted to UCSF.
I may need your further help regarding the interview in UCSF, espceially practical test. Could you tell me more regarding what you ask to do, like preparing the crown or class II carving... or else? And also, what kind of exam you gave applicants to do, is a English test or professional related test?

Thanks for your further help.
