Hey all, I recently received 2 offers for research assistant positions. One is at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and the other one is at Yale Medical school. I plan on applying for medical school next year and was hoping to get some advice on which one to go for. Both research seems interesting, and as far as salary and benefits, they are roughly the same. Boston is a lot more expensive, but I do lean toward living in the city. All that aside, do any of you have any experience working at either of these institutions? As far as reputation, would medical schools consider them about the same, or would they prefer seeing experience in a hospital setting like Dana-Farber? I would be working directly with patient tissue samples, so there is that. The professor that I would be working under at Yale promised that I would be published fairly soon if I began working with her. I believe similar opportunities are available at Dana-Farber, but I would be working with a team rather than directly under a professor. I would appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. Thanks!

It partly depends on what kind of doc you want to be. For example, if you knew you wanted to be an oncologist then I think D.F. would be the obvious choice. However, neither are bad options...

There are obvious plus/minuses to working with a team vs. one-on-one. Did you get good vibes from the person you'd be working with directly? Although both may lead to publications, the promise of a publication makes the opportunity much more enticing.
