Hey everyone,

I got my acceptance to CSPM the other week and after a long time deciding what to do I've decided to goto CSPM. I was wondering if there is anyone else that is going to this school next year as well?

hey I have an interview at CSPM coming up, what kind of questions did they ask you?

They asked a bunch of questions. So you talk to either a faculty member or the dean first. The dean doesn't really ask you many questions, he just wants to tell you more about the school. The faculty member asked me questions like how will I adjust to living in California (because I'm from NC), tell me about a weakness of yours, tell me a strength, why CSPM?, what do you like most about the school? What do you like least about the school?

That's all I can think about at the moment, if I remember more I'll add on. In the end it ended up being me choosing whether or not to goto NYCPM, wait for my Scholl interview or goto CSPM and I didn't really want to goto KSUCPM just cause I wasn't sure if I would want to live in such a small town. The class size CSPM has is a plus, 48 students in a class is pretty awesome, they start rotations the second year, which I thought was their biggest selling point and also they have a really cool simulation center and this new motion lab coming up soon.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience. I am a true underdog and CSPM is my #1 choice.

So i just got back from cali yesterday. I loved CSPM. I didnt think i would like it because people said how ghetto oakland is and how the school isnt as nice. Well, the area is okay not as ghetto looking as NY in east harlem or Temple in Philly. I really like that their class size cap off at 48 and their classrooms are small and they hAve round tables, unlike the big lecture halls. The downside is that they dont record their lecture classes like Scholl and NY and some other schools.

They dont have students ambassadors and their clinics are a little far. If i get accepted, i would pick CSPM because of their class size, location (so close to SF, which is beautiful) and early clinic exposure.

Some of the questions the dean and a faculty member asked me were..
1. How will you be able to handle the course load
2. Why CSPM over the schools in East Coast ( because im from the east coast)
3. How do you know this is what you want to do ( i put on my personal statement about how growing up my asian parents really wanted me to become a doctor haha)
4. How are you going to manage your time here
5. Because our school cap off at 48 students and lets say you get a good mcat score in february, why should cspm leave a seat for you?

Overall the interview was nice. We talked a lot and i even made them laugh here and there. I was very honest even when they asked me " why not go to NYCPM ( becAuse i did their summer internship). I said because they havent granted me an interview yet but then i went on about the things i liked about CSPM over the other schools.

Yeah, I agree. The area where CSPM wasn't bad at all. Also I talked to some second and third years and they said that a lot of them move to SF after their second year. It does suck that they don't record their classes, but that doesn't deter me that much.

I will be attending cspm as well fall 2013, looking fwd to meeting you all.

I really loved it for the same reasons both stated: small class size, and an over-abundance of patient we will receive early on. DMU and others have a nice paid actor simulation for practice, CSPM will throw us in the lion pit of highland hospital to really work with patients (attending said it sometimes feels like organized chaos haha)

A second year student said a good comment "When you' re done with any of the schools its not like you can take them with you in your pocket" aka- go where you think is an educational fit, and best training - not where you think looks the nicest. Personally CSPM fits my personality, and feel I will get great training and be a great podiatrist.

I very excited to embark on this challenging road ahead.

I interviewed at CSPM yesterday. It was great. I am hoping for an acceptance. How long did it take to hear back from them?

Took about a week and a half for them to tell me.

Took 6 days after interview for me.

Awesome! Yeah same here, have you turned your deposit in yet? I'm probably gonna turn mine in today.

I'm going to fax, and pay deposit tomorrow morning. I have tell Dec 7th, but I obviously don't want to wait last minute haha.

That's great!! I have been refreshing my email all morning hoping to see that wonderful email from CSPM. The anticipation is killing me.

I didn't have time yesterday to mail mine (too many tests :\), but I just mailed my letter of intent and the check! Very excited to get started on this process, not too excited about taking that $1000 deposit out of my checking account 🙁

Ok I am legit. I faxed my letter intent, and paid deposit over the phone... awwww yea.

Hey everyone,

I'm envious of all of you moving forward with CSPM -- my #1 choice. Does anyone have suggestions/tips/advice for the show down on interview day? Mine is on November 28. I know what the schedule will look like with what was sent out in the e-mail, but some more 411-- I'd very much appreciate it.

I'm going to the Info Session tomorrow to get some more detailed facts of CSPM--- so stoked!

I'll be attending CSPM as well in the Fall...I interviewed there and at Barry and I have to say it was like night and day. Everyone at CSPM was so enthusiastic about the school and so kind; one of the faculty even arranged for a cab to take me to the airport for free after my interview.

Can't wait to move up there next year!

Did you interview the 9th?

Have you all submitted deposit and background check yet?

I agree the staff, and faculty are very enthusiastic, and confident in there program. Dr. Tran was awesome, also the Dr ( I forget his name) but he is the pod for the SF Giants was really nice. I think the attending's at CSPM are awesome.

Someone should start a facebook group... should I start one?

With a screen name like SF Giants Fans, I knew you would choose cspm lol

Granted I been a Oakland A's fan since the 80's lol We will both be content. Go Niners though, man they are rocken! I want to be a future niner pod (dreams lol)

Haha yeah Bay Area sports for the win. The A's are alright in my book since they are American League... But yeah, the 49ers are getting it done this year! You can be the niners pod and I'll be the Giants' some day. Dream big!

Deposit paid! It's official!

congrats man. i just joined the facebook group.

Has anyone else filled out the stuff given to us after we turned in our deposit? I haven't started on that yet.

I did the background check.

Need to do that physical/vaccination's/fasfa. I talked to Andre, and he said we could email our vaccination's if we scan them into the computer.

I just had my interview today, it went very well and I would consider going if accepted. However there is no way I'm paying 1500 a month for rent 🙁

Do you qualify for any of the scholarships? There's a load off right there.
Have you considered having roomates?

When I got my congratulations e-mail, I didn't act the way I thought I would've....No, I didn't get a tattoo nor am I drunk. I went to tell my mom at her dry cleaners and then went to the gym.

I'm so elated. I love CSPM! I am very proud to have been selected.

I'm leaving for a cruise on Thursday....yeah, I'm happy.

Hello future podiatry students,
First, I want to congratulate everyone who got accepted to Podiatry medical school at CSPM. Hard work is finally paying off! I have my interview next month at CSPM. I am extremely nervous!! I'm bad at interviews but there is a lady who is going to prepare me 🙂 I will greatly appreciate some advice. Any special questions to watch out for? how long is the interview?
Thank You in advance. I hope to be part of the 2017 class with all you 🙂 I'm a helpful person and I believe helping each other is the best way to succeed! Hope to meet you all soon.
Best!
😀

they start rotations the second year

Be careful with that selling feature from CSPM. Residents and Attendings from there have all told me that it was just clipping toenails on some old ladies -not sure how that "early" exposure will help.

That goes for all the schools. They all have stuff they like to flaunt, but does it really make any difference in your education??

Hello,
I have been invited for an interview next month to CSPM, kinda surprise since my mcat score was horrible! But my whole application help me a lot. I was wondering if you got accepted and of they told you to retake the mcat and a better score?? You don't have to answer the question if you are not comfortable. 🙂 thank you

If you are getting an interview then they think you have the academic performance to do well at the school. You may not however be eligible for entering class scholarships.

When I interviewed there, they asked me what I thought about the MCAT, and if I thought the scores reflect my knowledge of the subjects. If not, what would you rate your scores in each section 1-15. My MCAT score isnt horrible, but far from stellar. haha.

i hope you told them you were at least a 13 in each section, right? they were lucky to even get a chance to interview you...

Ahh I have my interview at CSPM in January! From what everybody says here there are a lot of pros and cons about this school. A pro def being the smaller class size and a con that they don't record lectures. I have interviews at kent and dmu first. But I'm excited about this one too!

If it is such a big deal to have a recorded lecture why not just buy a recorder? Are you concerned about this because you won't be attending class?

Absolutely not it's not that big of a deal and I've never skipped a class in my career. I was just kinda knit picking when comparing actually.

Personally, I think if reflects on the school's academia. Regardless of whether you plan to use it or not, I believe it is a testament to the schools willingness to provide students with the best possible practices to help them succeed. It's like: my undergraduate school has an "award winning" writing center. I never used while I was a student there, but it was another "amenity" my school offered to helps its students succeed. Which is indicative of the school's outlook/creed, IMO.

You're right in saying that schools offer certain tools to advance learning. I just hope that the decision to choose one school over another doesn't come down to the fact that one school might record lectures. From my undergrad experience, all the classes that were recorded were the ones that had over 250 students. A recorded lecture meant that the students would listen to a lecture again rather than go into the teacher's lab/office to ask questions about something they had a question about. Lots of students asking questions would detract from the professors research.

I think what CSPM is trying to do is get students to participate in active learning. In other words, if you don't understand something or forgot a principle go to your teacher and ask questions. Because of the CSPM class size and the basic science faculty that is only hired to teach the pods, you WILL have less than 50 students in your class (please correct me if I am wrong). I think that attention from the teachers gives you a lot more than what a recorded lecture can give you. Sure some schools have a small pod class size, but it isn't going to seem that way when you are in a lecture hall with over 100 other students.

Wow.. what a rant. My thoughts in one sentence: I would rather just go speak with the professor than listen to the recording again.

I wish you the best of luck with your preconceived notions. Recording classes is an enormous boon. Professors fly through material in most classes - they don't have a choice. Sometimes they provide additional clues or clarification in class on what they believe is important or relevant. You'll want to capture these. Sometimes you can keep up, sometimes you can't. Sometimes they read straight off their slides, sometimes they have incredibly detailed notes that say it all, and sometimes the notes are just outlines and say almost nothing.

I've been hot and cold on lectures and whether they add value. I'm back to really liking them - at my own pace and timing and with the materials I need in front of me. Recorded lectures allow you to capture everything. They allow you to bring the lecture slides, the professors words, and your class notes and handouts together. Handouts by the way aren't always in order and they are often complicated requiring you to look back to prior sections. The pause button makes this possible. Additionally, some professors talk painfully slowly - being able to listen to these lectures at a faster pace can make them more tolerable. It can also allow you to quickly review your lectures as a final go through on 2+ speed.

Don't knock it till you've tried it. I watched 10 hours of immunology this Saturday and it was excellent.

Thank You. I'm still nervous but I need to calm down because I really do want this, I have another question. for all those that got interviewed at CSPM. Do they ask questions about public policy issues? public healthcare? those type of questions.??
HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!

For those individuals who are already attending CSPM, I have two questions:

1. Where do most of the students live?
2. Where are the clinical rotations?

I have a quick question? I was wondering the way they contacted you for acceptance. Was it by email, mail, or phone call?
Thank you! *crossing fingers I get in *_*"
