I work in a hospital and many of the younger nurses just out of school frequently pull doubles or even hold down two full time jobs. Is pharmacy a profession that you can do that in too, or would there be a conflict of interest in working for two different employers? One nurse told me her friend (a pharmacist) works only 3 days a week and makes around $90,000/year. Is that schedule typical? I always thought it to be like any other 8 hours a day, 5 days a week job.

And this is off topic, but many nurses where I work actually wish they had done pharmacy instead. They say that they are the lowest on the ladder and don't get paid enough for what they do. I am so glad I didn't do nursing! 🙂

maybe if she worked 3.... 12 hour shifts she might be able to pull that kinda cash. but i doubt it.

I work four 10 hour shifts; so that gives me essentially an extra day each week if I want to pick up some extra hours elswhere. I work a couple days a month at a local independent retail store and make pretty decent pocket change.

If you are foolish enough to try you can work 24/7 in this profession. It is up to you to know the difference between tired and dangerous (!!)
My partner loves 12 hour shifts and has worked them for years. He is manager of a pharmacy that has never had a second pharmacist until I arrived. It was routine for him to work 14 days without a day off. At fortyfive dollars an hour with overtime what was he pulling down?

He can do it without losing accuracy. I can not and will not. Needless to say
I have no problem getting him to cover my vacations 🙂

Nurses with advanced training in critical care specialties can rival a pharmacists salary. They also have the advantage of being the most portable profession next to a physician. They can get work anywhere in the world with ease

there are circumstances where you can and cannot have 2 jobs at the same time. for example, you could potentially be fired if you hold positions with walgreens and cvs because of conflict of interests. it's legal, but it's against the company's policy because of potential release of disclosed information. remember, there's competition between those companies. however, you can hold a job at walgreens and at the same time at kaiser or outpatient hospitals provided that your DM is awared. also, the law, atleast in MASS, only allows pharmacist to work 12hours shift with the exception in the emergency situation.
