I got this strange letter stating I was eligible to join Phi Theta Kappa. I've never heard of it. So after some research I realize it's an honor society for 2 year colleges...lol. It does make sense since I am attending a 2 year school to complete my pre-reqs. I guess it could pad my transcripts. I don't want to pay $48 dollars for dues. Might open some doors for scholarship/grant money?? :meanie:

I joined last spring. I joined so that I can have more extracurriculars, however I haven't had a chance to go to any meetings this semester. They do help with scholarships, and thats the main reason a lot of people join, but I'm not sure if they offer scholarships for any pharmacy schools. They are also willing to write recommendations, and you get a nice little PTK stamp on your transcript. I think I had to pay a lot more than $48.

I don't know if its exactly a stamp or not, but for my school they said it will show up on the transcript, and although I haven't seen my transcript my unofficial transcript says *Member of Phi Theta Kappa*

Perhaps you only think you're a member  . I think the $48 covers initial dues but I don't have time for meetings. But I do get a nifty pin..lol. Was there a large induction ceremony? I just have a feeling they hand these acceptance applications out to anyone that isn't mildly ******ed....i.e me! I hope that didn't offend anyone. :meanie:

BTW, I was told it will show up on your trans.

YEP...I joined Phi Theta Kappa last Fall.....

But guess what..I haven't been to any meetings yet....

I joined that club only so that it'll look good on my college application and ofcource schlorship too...Believe it or not I had to pay $75 to become a member

I think maybe the dues differ chapter to chapter. Was there some sort of induction ceremony?? I guess it would be nice to do some community service stuff if they're into that. I'll do anything to pad my transcript...lol.

I am a member, I have a PTK Member ID Card....you guys should check ur Transcript, I looked at mine again, it did not say anything about PTK member on the transcript

My PTK dues were $60... so far, all the scholarships offered were for people earning their AA/AS or transferring to a "four year college". Hey, most pharm schools are four year colleges. Can I get a scholarship, too?! 😳

I join in this semester. [the fees was 80$ 🙁 ] My transcript now has "Events: Phi-theta-kappa"... and the teacher says that will put more weight on it. Hope so cuz I don't see any chance for scholarship for me yet 😛

Yeah Phi Theta Kappa seems kinda crappy, but you can get transfer scholarships to some colleges for being apart.

Grants/ scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa do not apply to most graduate schools only 4 year universities. This was the major factor for me when I decided not to join.

My school did not put anything on the transcript about PTK. I listed it as an activity in PharmCAS though.

I joined when I was leaving a community college with my AA. It gave me a $5,500 annual scholarship to the 4 year school where I completed my degree. Between that and the Florida Resident's Access Grant, it put my private school tuition down to what I would have paid for a state school.

Wow, thats pretty generous.

As far as the OP asked, the only perk I've seen so far from Phi Theta Kappa, is I get an extra 500 dollars a semester. I'm a junior completing my undergrad, not in pharmacy school.
