We don't get the community of being in college, yet we're studying for most of the day. How do you fight isolation/loneliness? No one in my program really gets together because they don't live very near campus. Plus, I don't feel like talking about premed stuff all day.

I really enjoy my volunteering position, but it's not that social.

Yep, this killed me, and I got depressed and my GPA tanked. Be smarter than me. Don't try to make friends with people with whom you have no connection, or with whom you have nothing in common, particularly if there's a big age difference. Get a social life outside of school and work to keep it healthy. You'll have to do this the rest of your life anyway, most likely.

Also living alone, if you're having trouble with isolation, is a mistake. I finally, finally figured this out last year. Having a dog is no social life.

Best of luck to you.

I found study groups to help--made a world of difference in feeling involved and in my enjoyment of classes/learning.

The best things I found to fight off those feelings are
a) Meet up with a bunch of old friends and just get out of your normal area
b) Get to the gym...it'll make you feel good about yourself again and usually there are people you grow to know after going for a bit

No matter what you do just change up your routine to get out a bit more and don't fall into a slump because they suck to try and get out.

1. Go to the gym.
2. Make a study group.

if you live alone, make sure to stay out of your place as much as possible.
