Hey fellow applicants,

Has anyone received any emails/calls from MGH yet? I know in the past they've placed calls and/or invited people back for second looks at their expense. Just wondering if this has started happening yet.

Thanks!

Someone from 617 area code left me a 40 sec. voice mail from Natalie Cole's "Say You Love Me" song 😍
I have not heard anything else 🙁

I guess it's still early. I haven't looked through last years' posts to see when most people heard. I imagine that they don't sit down and make their rank list until late January/early Feb?

They called me last week. They said this year they were calling everyone they were putting on their rank list. If you didn't get a call I think I have bad news for you... you probably weren't even ranked.

Ditto.

Last week, they called me to arrange a fourth look and offered to buy me a new car.

lol I thought you were a resident at hopkins?

No call... But snail mail with two first class tickets to their second look

Really that insecure???

What if 500 people got the phone call/emails and not you - is that going to change where you rank them?? If not, stop bumping the thread

I would like to reiterate that they called me and I have an update. They gave me a $50,000 signing bonus just to say that I would put them on my rank list.

LOL why so angry little bear? Thanks for the free bump!

If it helps you get into MGH, I'll bump it all day for you. There another help with your bump. Sadly, MGH is not keeping track of number of bumps on this thread. Phone call or no phone call, your place on the rank list is set.

Sane advice will be to chill. You have done all you could.

Good Luck!

PSA: People considering ranking MGH #1, people like the OP will be your work mates... good luck

FYI: I heard that MGH and BWH met last week to come up with their ROL.

Don't lie. That meeting took place back in October.

Shhh..............

I also received this from MGH (took the date out)

We would like to invite all interested candidates to learn more about the
resident-led DOM LGBT-Allies committee and mingle with resident and faculty
members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community at a
reception on February xth from 6pm to 8pm. The reception will take place at
the recently opened MGH Museum of Medical History and Innovation located on
the main campus of the hospital, which is easily accessible by the T (2 North
Grove Street, Boston, MA 02114). We will be providing appetizers and drinks.

They want me !!!!

Allies!

MGH's last interview day was this past Wednesday, January 23rd. I'd imagine that they wouldn't meet until after this last interview day, right? Although I admit I have no idea how these things work and I don't know how they'd be able to get through all 450 interviewees in one day.

Well, those of us who founded complex government health-care systems in 1st-world countries AND/OR competed in the Olympic Games (and medalled) before applying to residency were reviewed first... which was about 300-350 of us (or so I am told), though a few people were DOUBLE THREATS and had both things on their resume.

Which Olympic event(s) did you compete in again?

looool no he wont, he didn't get the call. haha jk.

Best of luck of OP, i'm ranking MGH number one as well, but i'm not expecting a call, If I match there cool, if not i'm okay with that.

In years past, a lot of people who were told by MGH that they would match, didn't and it put a bad taste in many people's mouths. Of course, people who didn't get a call also didn't match... so there's that.

In all seriousness, has anyone gotten a phone call from MGH this interview season? And if so, was the language promising or explicit for rank outcomes?

And my last question was whether phone calls correlated with outcomes, but it seems from years past there was no association (unless people are just lying).

No. Of Hopkins, Brigham, UCSF, and MGH, only thing i've heard is a short note from UCSF the day after my interview.

START GETTING NERVOUS PEOPLE. :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

In years past, at best there was no association with MGH contact and matching and at worst a negative correlation. Seriously folks...rank them the way you like them.

I received a call from my interview panel chair on Sunday notifying me that I am ranked to match. Good luck to you all!

Based on past years, this means that you are the absolute last person on their list and have absolutely no chance of matching there. Sorry, couldn't resist .

Seriously though, congratulations!

Yeah they called me earlier this interview season. They told me I was ranked to match but also that I was too strong of an applicant for their program. They recommend that I rank Hopkins #1 and if hopkins didn't want me they would be honored to have me in their program ... I'm just telling you all what they told me... Straight from the horse's mouth people.

I was actually serious about that part. If you look back at some of the threads ~2-3 years ago you will see a bunch of people who got calls from MGH and the Brigham who didn't match and were pissed off.

Dr. Bezari gave me a call yesterday. He told me that I was "ranked to match"

He also said he was utterly unimpressed with my application and that I wouldn't be a good fit at all at his institution.

Looks like I've received the double kiss of death :meanie:

Technically, (s)he didn't lie. Most programs rank ALL the people they interview (unless they had a strong reason not to rank certain people). So you are "ranked to match" - but different programs use that term differently - some mean what I said above i.e. you are on the list somewhere - but technically it means that depending on historic data, i.e. if they usually go 1:5 deep for their ranking and you are 250 (assuming there are 50 spots) then you are technically ranked to match as well. But in a good year they may only go 1:3 or in a bad year 1:7 - so people who got a call can get the boot and the people who didn't get the call have a chance as well.

It's all in the way you look at that glass. As gutonc and multiple others have said - rank programs where ever you want them to pretending you never got called from any program!

GL

If you interviewed at those places, I wouldn't put so may scared faces in my post - relax - you will be fine

Yeah, don't listen to him. You sound like a borderline candidate to me.

Just received a rank to match phone call today from MGH's PD!

Congrats to you, o chosen one. Is he calling everyone ranked to match? I keep looking at my phone waiting for a 617 number. #notalldreamscometrue

I am most certainly real and am most certainly truthful. Sorry to those who are haters! If you're on this website and can't handle the truth maybe you should log off.

FYI 240s on Step 1, top 10 med school, MD/PhD, multiple first author pubs, letter from nationally renowned subspecialist, honors in all rotations and subI.

Again, good luck to you all on March 15!

How do you remain so humble? 🙂

Wait...listen...

Did you hear that? That was the sound of 500 SDNers logging on to NRMP to delete MGH from their rank lists.

Also cured HIV, found free clinic in Africa, defined a new disease named after me.

You got me! Just joking around! I would have been thrilled to get an interview at MGH so good luck to those who did and good luck to everyone else on March 15!

Haha. Very funny, dude. 🙂

But seriously, some of us are anxious over this very decision so don't do that again!

In other news, have any *real people* heard from MGH? All quiet on my front.

It's all quiet on my side as well. The only responses I got were replies to my thank-you letters from my panel interviewers (I emailed all of them).

Just replies for my thank you emails.

However a person I interviewed with said her friend got invited back for a second look at MGH's expense

I got an email about the new chairwoman of medicine being appointed at MGH...not sure if that meant anything
